A Court of Mist and Fury – Sarah J. Maas (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #2)
I never expected to fall this deeply in love with this series after just two books, but here I am, completely immersed in the world Sarah J. Maas has created! I absolutely loved „A Court of Mist and Fury”, and I think it has become one of my favorite series without me even realizing it. I am so invested in the story that even when I am not reading, I find myself thinking about the characters, their choices, and everything that is yet to happen to them. I feel like I have reached the point where all I want to do is return to this world as soon as possible because I am far too curious to find out what happens next.
In this book, we find Feyre after all the terrible events Under the Mountain, but it is clear that everything she went through has changed her profoundly. Although she survived, she is still struggling with her own trauma, painful memories, and a multitude of feelings she does not always know how to handle. The life she thought she wanted no longer brings her the same happiness, and the things that once seemed right for her are beginning to make her feel trapped in a place where she can no longer truly be herself.
I really enjoyed following Feyre’s development throughout this book. I felt that I had the chance to get to know her much better and understand just how deeply everything she went through affected her. I love that she is not a character who simply recovers from everything she has experienced, but rather someone who has to go through a difficult process to find her balance again and figure out what she truly wants. I loved watching her become more confident, learn to acknowledge her own needs, and discover that she deserves freedom and the opportunity to make her own decisions about her life.
Another thing I absolutely loved was the way the Night Court is portrayed. I loved its atmosphere, the mystery surrounding it, and everything Feyre begins to discover once she arrives there. The world the author has created becomes more and more fascinating to me, and in this book, I felt that I had the opportunity to discover another side of Prythian, one far more complex than I could have imagined. I love that there is still so much to learn about this world and that every new discovery adds to our understanding of the characters and their choices.
And since we’re talking about characters, I absolutely have to talk about Rhysand! I really enjoyed learning more about him and discovering that, beneath the image he presents at first, there is a much more complex character. He has so many different sides and keeps so much to himself that I was incredibly curious to discover what lay behind his behavior. As the story progresses, you begin to understand his choices and motivations better, and I absolutely loved the way the author developed his character.
Feyre and Rhysand’s relationship was also one of my favorite aspects of the book. I loved watching their connection grow and seeing how they gradually begin to trust each other more. What makes their relationship so interesting to me is that it is not based solely on attraction, but also on respect, understanding, and the freedom to be themselves. I loved seeing how Rhysand encourages Feyre to discover her own powers and refuse to settle for the life others think she should have. At the same time, their relationship has plenty of tense and emotional moments that made me want to keep reading about them.
I also really liked the side characters, especially the dynamic between the members of Rhysand’s inner circle. Each of them has their own personality, experiences, and important role in the story, and their interactions add so much charm to the entire book. I think Sarah J. Maas has a real talent for creating characters you become attached to quite quickly, precisely because you get to discover them gradually and begin to understand what lies beneath their behavior. I feel that every single one of them contributes to the atmosphere of the story and that the relationships between the characters make this world even more fascinating.
As for the plot, all I can say is that I was stressed out for pretty much the entire time I was reading! Even though there are moments when the story focuses more on the characters and their relationships, the threat of war with Hybern is always present. The more you learn about what is being planned, the more worried you become about the characters’ future. Personally, I just wanted everything to work out and for them not to have to endure any more suffering, but at the same time, I was incredibly curious to find out how everything would unfold and what decisions they would make.
I loved how the tension gradually builds and how there is always a reason to wonder what will happen next. There were plenty of moments when I thought things were finally going to calm down, only for the story to surprise me all over again. And the plot twists were another major highlight of the book! There were a few twists I genuinely did not see coming, and I absolutely loved them. I love it when a story manages to surprise me and make me question my own assumptions, and this book did exactly that. I devoured those moments and immediately wanted to find out what would happen next.
I think what made me love this book so much is the combination of character development, romance, a magical atmosphere, and a suspense-filled plot. I felt that each of these elements contributed something meaningful to the story and that none of them was there simply to fill the pages. I loved watching Feyre begin to discover who she really is, seeing the relationships between the characters change, and watching everything unfold against the backdrop of a threat that could change all of Prythian.
If I had to choose just one thing I appreciated the most, I think it would be Feyre’s development and the way her personal journey connects with all the other elements of the book. I loved watching her try to find her place, understand her feelings, and discover the kind of person she wants to become. At the same time, Rhysand was an incredibly pleasant surprise, and his relationship with Feyre made me even more invested in the story. Of course, the suspense and plot twists were just as amazing, so I had every reason to be completely hooked on this book.
Overall, „A Court of Mist and Fury” was a wonderful reading experience for me and a sequel I ended up loving even more than I expected. I grew attached to the characters, was eager to uncover all their secrets, enjoyed the beautiful moments, and worried every time things seemed to be heading in a dangerous direction. I experienced so many emotions while reading this book, and most importantly, I ended up falling even more in love with this world.
I already feel like this series will remain one of my favorites for a long time, and I am incredibly excited to continue reading. I want to find out what happens to Feyre and Rhysand, how the relationships between the characters will develop, and what other surprises the author has in store for me. If I am already this invested in the story after just two books, I can only imagine how attached I will become to it by the time I reach the end of the series. I cannot wait to return to Prythian!
