Unele cărți ajung la tine exact atunci când trebuie, iar pentru mine „Regatul spinilor și al trandafirilor” a fost una dintre acele lecturi pe care mă bucur enorm că nu le-am mai amânat. Este primul volum din seria-fenomen „ACOTAR”, scrisă de Sarah J. Maas, și, deși am auzit de această serie de foarte mult timp și am văzut-o recomandată peste tot, abia acum am avut ocazia să o descopăr. Și pot să spun de pe acum că înțeleg de ce a reușit să cucerească atât de mulți cititori.
Mă bucur foarte mult că am ajuns la această serie datorită celor de la Bookzone, care au readus-o în atenția cititorilor prin ediții foarte frumoase, atât în format paperback, cât și în varianta hardcover cu sprayed edges. Recunosc că ediția hardcover mi-a atras imediat atenția, iar faptul că am avut ocazia să citesc această poveste într-o ediție atât de frumoasă a făcut experiența și mai plăcută.
Povestea ne-o prezintă pe Feyre Archeron, o tânără care a învățat de mică ce înseamnă să supraviețuiești atunci când nu ai aproape nimic. Familia ei trăiește în sărăcie, iar Feyre este cea care se ocupă de procurarea hranei. Este o fată puternică, încăpățânată și obișnuită să se bazeze doar pe propriile puteri. Nu este neapărat genul de protagonistă care îți devine dragă din primele pagini, dar tocmai faptul că o vedem evoluând și descoperindu-se pe parcurs mi s-a părut foarte interesant.
Totul se schimbă atunci când Feyre ucide un lup pentru a-și hrăni familia. Ceea ce nu știe este că acel lup nu era un animal obișnuit. Gestul ei are consecințe neașteptate, iar Feyre ajunge să fie luată din lumea muritorilor și dusă dincolo de Zid, în Prythian, tărâmul nemuritorilor fae despre care oamenii au învățat să se teamă.
Și cred că aici a început una dintre părțile mele preferate ale cărții. Mi-a plăcut enorm lumea construită de Sarah J. Maas. Prythian este un loc fascinant, plin de magie, mister, creaturi nemuritoare și regate diferite, fiecare cu propria atmosferă și propriile reguli. Autoarea reușește să descrie foarte frumos locurile, peisajele și palatele, astfel încât am avut de multe ori senzația că mă plimb alături de Feyre prin această lume pe care nici ea nu o înțelege de la început.
Mi-a plăcut foarte mult și felul în care este organizat Prythianul și faptul că există mai multe regate, fiecare având ceva distinct. Chiar dacă în acest prim volum nu descoperim tot ceea ce are de oferit această lume, am simțit încă de pe acum că povestea este mult mai mare decât ceea ce vedem în această carte. Tocmai acest lucru m-a făcut să fiu și mai curioasă în legătură cu următoarele volume și cu locurile și personajele pe care urmează să le descopăr.
Ajunsă în tărâmul nemuritorilor, Feyre îl întâlnește pe Tamlin, Înaltul Lord al Curții Primăverii. La început, relația dintre cei doi este departe de a fi una simplă. Feyre nu are încredere în el și în lumea în care a fost adusă, iar Tamlin păstrează foarte multe lucruri pentru el. Mi-a plăcut însă foarte mult să urmăresc cum se schimbă treptat interacțiunile dintre ei și cum Feyre începe să privească dincolo de ceea ce vede la suprafață.
De altfel, recunosc că, în primele capitole, povestea mi-a dat foarte mult impresia unei reinterpretări a cărții „Frumoasa și Bestia”, iar acest lucru mi-a plăcut foarte mult, pentru că este o poveste pe care am îndrăgit-o dintotdeauna. Feyre ajunge într-un loc necunoscut, alături de o ființă pe care inițial o consideră periculoasă, iar pe măsură ce începe să descopere adevărul din spatele aparențelor, lucrurile devin din ce în ce mai interesante.
Unul dintre aspectele care m-au făcut să mă bucur atât de mult de această lectură a fost modul în care sunt construite personajele. Feyre este, fără îndoială, în centrul poveștii, dar mi-au atras atenția și celelalte personaje pe care le întâlnește. Tamlin este un personaj cu foarte multe secrete, iar pe măsură ce aflăm mai multe despre el, începem să înțelegem mai bine de ce se comportă într-un anumit fel. Mi-a plăcut și faptul că nu avem de-a face cu personaje perfecte, ci cu personaje care au propriile temeri, greșeli, dorințe și slăbiciuni.
Lucien a fost un alt personaj care mi-a plăcut foarte mult. Mi s-au părut foarte amuzante replicile lui, felul în care interacționează cu Feyre și dinamica pe care o are cu Tamlin. Cred că prezența lui aduce un echilibru foarte plăcut poveștii și mi-ar plăcea să descopăr și mai multe despre trecutul și povestea lui în volumele următoare.
Și, bineînțeles, nu pot să nu îl menționez pe Rhysand, un personaj care mi-a stârnit foarte mult curiozitatea. Nu vreau să intru în prea multe detalii pentru cei care nu au citit cartea, însă pot spune că aparițiile lui aduc o energie complet diferită în poveste. Este misterios, sigur pe el, provocator și pare să ascundă mult mai multe decât lasă să se vadă. Sunt foarte curioasă să văd în ce direcție va merge povestea lui și ce rol va avea în volumele următoare.
Mi-a plăcut enorm și chimia dintre personaje. Interacțiunile lor nu mi s-au părut deloc forțate, iar tensiunea dintre anumite personaje face ca paginile să se citească foarte ușor. Relațiile se dezvoltă treptat, iar Feyre ajunge să vadă lucrurile diferit pe măsură ce află mai multe despre Prythian și despre cei care locuiesc acolo. Mi s-a părut interesant să urmăresc cum neîncrederea și teama ei se transformă încet în curiozitate, apropiere și sentimente pe care nici ea nu le înțelege de la început.
În același timp, cartea nu este doar despre romantism. Pe măsură ce povestea avansează, devine tot mai clar că în Prythian se întâmplă lucruri mult mai grave. Există un blestem, există secrete care trebuie descoperite, iar o amenințare întunecată pune în pericol atât lumea nemuritorilor, cât și pe cea a muritorilor. Mi-a plăcut faptul că povestea pornește într-un ritm mai liniștit, concentrându-se pe Feyre și pe noua ei viață, pentru ca mai apoi să devină tot mai intensă.
Ultima parte a cărții mi s-a părut deosebit de captivantă. Acțiunea crește, apar situații periculoase, iar Feyre este pusă în fața unor alegeri foarte dificile. Mi-a plăcut să văd cât de departe este dispusă să meargă pentru oamenii pe care îi iubește și câtă putere poate găsi atunci când nu mai are altă soluție. În acest moment am simțit cel mai bine evoluția ei de la fata care încerca doar să-și țină familia în viață la o tânără care ajunge să lupte pentru lucruri mult mai mari decât și-ar fi imaginat vreodată.
Per total, „Regatul spinilor și al trandafirilor” a fost o lectură care m-a surprins într-un mod foarte plăcut. Mi-a plăcut povestea, mi-a plăcut foarte mult lumea creată de Sarah J. Maas, mi-au plăcut personajele și, mai ales, mi-a plăcut felul în care toate aceste elemente se îmbină. Atmosfera de basm, magia, romantismul, misterul și momentele de acțiune au făcut ca lectura să fie exact genul de experiență pe care o caut atunci când vreau să mă pierd într-o lume complet diferită de a noastră.
Cred că cel mai mult mă bucur că, în sfârșit, am ajuns să citesc această serie despre care am auzit atât de multe lucruri de-a lungul timpului. Uneori, când vezi o carte recomandată de atât de mulți oameni, ajungi să ai așteptări foarte mari și există riscul să fii dezamăgit. În cazul meu, însă, primul volum chiar mi-a plăcut foarte mult și mi-a stârnit dorința de a continua imediat.
„Regatul spinilor și al trandafirilor” mi-a oferit exact senzația aceea de aventură, magie și romantism pe care o căutam și, fără îndoială, este o carte pe care o voi păstra cu drag în suflet. Iar acum sunt foarte nerăbdătoare să mă întorc în Prythian, să descopăr mai multe despre celelalte regate, să cunosc mai bine personajele pe care deja le-am întâlnit și să văd ce alte secrete mai ascunde această lume.
Pentru mine, acesta a fost un început de serie de 5 stele și sunt tare curioasă să aflu dacă volumele următoare vor reuși să-mi placă și mai mult. Dacă primul volum mi-a oferit deja atât de multe lucruri pe care le-am îndrăgit, abia aștept să văd unde mă va purta mai departe povestea lui Feyre.
A Court of Thorns and Roses – Sarah J. Maas (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #1)
Some books find their way to you exactly when you need them to, and for me, „A Court of Thorns and Roses” was one of those books I’m incredibly glad I finally stopped putting off. It is the first book in the phenomenal „ACOTAR” series by Sarah J. Maas, and although I had been hearing about this series for a very long time and had seen it recommended everywhere, it was only now that I finally had the chance to discover it. And I can already say that I understand why it has managed to captivate so many readers.
I’m very happy that I discovered this series thanks to Bookzone, who brought it back into readers’ attention through some beautiful editions, both in paperback and in a hardcover edition with sprayed edges. I have to admit that the hardcover edition immediately caught my attention, and having the opportunity to read this story in such a beautiful edition made the experience even more enjoyable.
The story introduces us to Feyre Archeron, a young woman who learned from an early age what it means to survive when you have almost nothing. Her family lives in poverty, and Feyre is the one responsible for finding food. She is strong, stubborn, and used to relying solely on herself. She isn’t necessarily the kind of protagonist you immediately fall in love with from the first few pages, but I found it very interesting to watch her grow and discover herself throughout the story.
Everything changes when Feyre kills a wolf to feed her family. What she doesn’t know is that this wolf was not an ordinary animal. Her actions have unexpected consequences, and Feyre is taken from the mortal world and brought beyond the Wall, into Prythian, the land of the immortal fae that humans have learned to fear.
And I think this is where one of my favorite parts of the book began. I absolutely loved the world Sarah J. Maas created. Prythian is a fascinating place, filled with magic, mystery, immortal creatures, and different courts, each with its own atmosphere and rules. The author does a wonderful job describing the places, landscapes, and palaces, and I often felt as though I were walking alongside Feyre through this world that even she doesn’t fully understand at first.
I also really enjoyed the way Prythian is organized and the fact that there are several courts, each with something distinct about it. Even though we don’t discover everything this world has to offer in the first book, I could already feel that the story was much bigger than what we see in this particular volume. That made me even more curious about the next books and about the places and characters I have yet to discover.
Once she arrives in the land of the immortal fae, Feyre meets Tamlin, the High Lord of the Spring Court. At first, the relationship between them is far from simple. Feyre doesn’t trust him or the world she has been brought into, while Tamlin keeps many things to himself. However, I really enjoyed watching their interactions gradually change and seeing Feyre begin to look beyond what she sees on the surface.
In fact, I have to admit that, during the first few chapters, the story reminded me a lot of a retelling of „Beauty and the Beast”, and I really enjoyed that because it is a story I have always loved. Feyre finds herself in an unfamiliar place, alongside a being she initially considers dangerous, and as she begins to uncover the truth behind appearances, things become more and more interesting.
One of the aspects that made me enjoy this book so much was the way the characters are developed. Feyre is undoubtedly at the center of the story, but I was also drawn to the other characters she meets along the way. Tamlin is a character with many secrets, and as we learn more about him, we begin to understand better why he behaves the way he does. I also liked the fact that we aren’t dealing with perfect characters, but with people who have their own fears, mistakes, desires, and weaknesses.
Lucien was another character I really enjoyed. I found his lines very funny, as well as the way he interacts with Feyre and the dynamic he has with Tamlin. I think his presence brings a very enjoyable balance to the story, and I would love to discover more about his past and his own story in the next books.
And, of course, I can’t not mention Rhysand, a character who made me incredibly curious. I don’t want to go into too much detail for those who haven’t read the book, but I can say that his appearances bring a completely different energy to the story. He is mysterious, confident, provocative, and seems to be hiding much more than he lets on. I’m very curious to see where his story will go and what role he will play in the books to come.
I also loved the chemistry between the characters. Their interactions never felt forced to me, and the tension between certain characters makes the pages incredibly easy to turn. The relationships develop gradually, and Feyre begins to see things differently as she learns more about Prythian and the people who live there. I found it interesting to watch her fear and distrust slowly transform into curiosity, closeness, and feelings that even she doesn’t fully understand at first.
At the same time, the book isn’t only about romance. As the story progresses, it becomes increasingly clear that much more serious things are happening in Prythian. There is a curse, there are secrets that need to be uncovered, and a dark threat puts both the immortal and mortal worlds in danger. I liked the fact that the story begins at a slower pace, focusing on Feyre and her new life, before gradually becoming more and more intense.
I found the final part of the book particularly captivating. The action picks up, dangerous situations arise, and Feyre is faced with some very difficult choices. I loved seeing how far she is willing to go for the people she loves and how much strength she can find when she has no other choice. This was when I felt her character development most strongly—from a girl who was simply trying to keep her family alive to a young woman who ends up fighting for things much greater than she could ever have imagined.
Overall, „A Court of Thorns and Roses” was a read that pleasantly surprised me. I loved the story, I absolutely loved the world Sarah J. Maas created, I loved the characters, and, most of all, I loved the way all these elements come together. The fairytale atmosphere, the magic, the romance, the mystery, and the action sequences made this exactly the kind of reading experience I look for when I want to get lost in a world completely different from our own.
I think what makes me happiest is that I finally got around to reading this series that I had heard so much about over the years. Sometimes, when you see a book recommended by so many people, you end up having very high expectations, and there is always a risk of being disappointed. In my case, however, I genuinely loved the first book, and it made me want to continue the series immediately.
„A Court of Thorns and Roses” gave me exactly that feeling of adventure, magic, and romance that I was looking for, and without a doubt, it is a book I will hold dear in my heart. And now I’m incredibly eager to return to Prythian, discover more about the other courts, get to know the characters I have already met even better, and find out what other secrets this world is hiding.
For me, this was a five-star start to the series, and I’m very curious to find out whether the next books will manage to impress me even more. If the first book has already given me so many things to love, I can’t wait to see where Feyre’s story will take me next.
