„Vânătorul fără inimă” de Kristen Ciccarelli a fost una dintre acele cărți care au stat pe lista mea de lecturi mult mai mult decât ar fi trebuit. O vedeam recomandată peste tot, eram curioasă să descopăr povestea, însă de fiecare dată intervenea altceva și ajungeam să o amân. Acum, după ce am citit-o, nu pot decât să mă bucur că i-a venit în sfârșit rândul, pentru că a fost exact genul de lectură care te face să uiți de timp și să întorci pagină după pagină fără să-ți dai seama.
Acțiunea ne poartă într-o lume în care vrăjitoarele sunt vânate fără milă, iar simplul fapt că aparții acestei categorii poate însemna o condamnare la moarte. Rune trăiește în permanență cu această teamă. Ziua joacă rolul unei tinere elegante, preocupate doar de aparențe și aparent loiale noului regim care urăște vrăjitoarele. Însă noaptea devine Molia Stacojie, o figură misterioasă care riscă totul pentru a salva alte vrăjitoare de la execuție. Mi-a plăcut foarte mult contrastul dintre cele două fețe ale personajului. Rune este curajoasă, inteligentă și dispusă să facă sacrificii uriașe pentru cei pe care îi protejează, chiar dacă asta înseamnă să trăiască mereu cu frica de a fi descoperită.
De cealaltă parte îl avem pe Gideon Sharpe, unul dintre cei mai temuți vânători de vrăjitoare. Viața lui a fost marcată de pierderi și tragedii, iar ura pe care o poartă vrăjitoarelor îi influențează fiecare decizie. La început pare rece, dur și aproape imposibil de înduplecat. Totuși, pe măsură ce povestea avansează, descoperim un personaj mult mai complex, cu îndoieli, vulnerabilități și sentimente pe care încearcă să le ascundă chiar și față de el însuși.
Relația dintre Rune și Gideon este, fără îndoială, unul dintre cele mai reușite aspecte ale romanului. Cei doi intră într-un joc periculos al aparențelor, fiecare încercând să obțină informații de la celălalt. Rune se apropie de Gideon pentru a afla ce știu vânătorii despre Molia Stacojie, în timp ce Gideon începe să o curteze pentru că bănuiește că ea ascunde secrete importante. Între întâlniri tensionate, replici inteligente și suspiciuni constante, începe să se nască ceva ce niciunul dintre ei nu și-a dorit. Mi-a plăcut enorm felul în care autoarea a construit această relație. Atracția dintre ei apare treptat, iar momentele petrecute împreună sunt pline de emoție și tensiune.
Cartea este scrisă într-un stil foarte fluent și captivant. Fiecare capitol adaugă noi informații, noi pericole și noi întrebări, astfel încât este aproape imposibil să te oprești din citit. Am simțit în permanență că miza crește, iar secretele pe care le ascund personajele fac povestea și mai interesantă. Acțiunea este alertă, există multe răsturnări de situație, iar pericolul este prezent la fiecare pas.
Un alt lucru care m-a impresionat a fost construcția personajelor. Nici Rune și nici Gideon nu sunt perfecți. Ambii fac greșeli, iau decizii discutabile și sunt nevoiți să se confrunte cu propriile convingeri. Tocmai acest lucru i-a făcut să pară atât de reali și ușor de înțeles. Am ajuns să mă atașez de ei și să îmi doresc să aflu dacă vor reuși să depășească toate obstacolele care le stau în cale.
Pentru mine, „Vânătorul fără inimă” a fost o combinație excelentă de fantasy, romantism și suspans. Magia, conflictele, pericolele și mai ales chimia dintre personaje au făcut ca lectura să fie extrem de plăcută. Relația dintre Rune și Gideon a fost elementul care a ridicat povestea la un alt nivel și care m-a făcut să investesc emoțional în fiecare capitol.
Am închis cartea cu sentimentul că am descoperit începutul unei serii foarte promițătoare. Mi-a plăcut enorm această poveste și sunt nerăbdătoare să continui aventura alături de Rune și Gideon. Finalul lasă suficiente întrebări fără răspuns încât să mă facă să vreau imediat următorul volum, iar eu abia aștept să aflu ce îi mai așteaptă pe cei doi și cum va evolua relația lor în continuare.
Heartless Hunter – Kristen Ciccarelli (The Crimson Moth, #1)
„Heartless Hunter” by Kristen Ciccarelli was one of those books that sat on my TBR far longer than it should have. I kept seeing it recommended everywhere, and I was curious to discover the story, but somehow something else always came up, and I ended up postponing it. Now that I’ve finally read it, I can only say I’m glad I gave it a chance because it was exactly the kind of book that makes you lose track of time and keep turning pages without even realizing it.
The story takes us into a world where witches are relentlessly hunted, and simply belonging to that group can mean a death sentence. Rune lives with that fear every single day. By day, she plays the role of an elegant young woman who seems concerned only with appearances and appears loyal to the new regime that despises witches. By night, however, she becomes the Crimson Moth, a mysterious figure who risks everything to save other witches from execution. I loved the contrast between these two sides of her character. Rune is brave, intelligent, and willing to make enormous sacrifices for those she protects, even if it means constantly living in fear of being discovered.
On the other side, we have Gideon Sharpe, one of the most feared witch hunters. His life has been marked by loss and tragedy, and the hatred he carries toward witches influences every decision he makes. At first, he seems cold, harsh, and almost impossible to sway. However, as the story unfolds, we discover a much more complex character, one filled with doubts, vulnerabilities, and feelings he tries to hide even from himself.
The relationship between Rune and Gideon is undoubtedly one of the novel’s strongest aspects. The two become involved in a dangerous game of appearances, each trying to gather information from the other. Rune grows closer to Gideon in order to learn what the hunters know about the Crimson Moth, while Gideon begins courting her because he suspects she is hiding important secrets. Amid tense encounters, clever exchanges, and constant suspicion, something begins to grow between them that neither of them expected nor wanted. I absolutely loved the way the author developed their relationship. The attraction builds gradually, and their shared moments are filled with emotion and tension.
The book is written in a very fluid and engaging style. Every chapter introduces new information, new dangers, and new questions, making it almost impossible to stop reading. I constantly felt the stakes getting higher, and the secrets the characters keep make the story even more compelling. The pacing is fast, there are plenty of twists and turns, and danger lurks around every corner.
Another aspect that impressed me was the character development. Neither Rune nor Gideon is perfect. Both make mistakes, questionable decisions, and are forced to confront their own beliefs. That is precisely what made them feel so real and relatable. I became attached to both of them and found myself eager to discover whether they would overcome all the obstacles standing in their way.
For me, „Heartless Hunter” was an excellent blend of fantasy, romance, and suspense. The magic, the conflicts, the dangers, and especially the chemistry between the characters made for an incredibly enjoyable reading experience. The relationship between Rune and Gideon was the element that elevated the story to another level and made me emotionally invested in every chapter.
I finished the book feeling as though I had discovered the beginning of a very promising series. I loved this story and cannot wait to continue the journey alongside Rune and Gideon. The ending leaves enough unanswered questions to make me want the next book immediately, and I’m excited to find out what awaits them next and how their relationship will continue to evolve.
