„Misterul celor șapte cadrane” de Agatha Christie este o carte care mi-a stârnit curiozitatea de la început, dar, din păcate, nu și-a menținut ritmul pe tot parcursul. Am apreciat atmosfera tipică romanelor Agathei Christie și acel aer de mister britanic clasic, dar povestea mi s-a părut uneori prea complicată fără să aducă o satisfacție reală.
Totul începe într-o casă de la țară, Chimneys, unde un grup de tineri se adună pentru un weekend relaxant. Printre ei se află Gerry Wade, un tânăr cunoscut pentru faptul că doarme prea mult. Prietenii lui decid să-i joace o farsă: îi pun opt ceasuri deșteptătoare în cameră, ca să fie sigur că se trezește devreme. Dar farsa se transformă într-un coșmar – Gerry este găsit mort în dimineața următoare, iar unul dintre ceasuri lipsește. De aici începe totul…
Personajul care m-a surprins cel mai plăcut este Bundle Brent, o tânără curajoasă și inteligentă, care nu stă deoparte atunci când lucrurile devin periculoase. Ea simte că moartea lui Gerry nu a fost un accident și decide să investigheze pe cont propriu. Bundle ajunge să se implice într-un mister mai mare decât și-ar fi imaginat, care implică o societate secretă numită Cele Șapte Cadrane.
Pe parcursul anchetei, apar tot mai multe personaje, unele mai enigmatice decât altele: Lady Coote, Lord Caterham, comisarul Battle, dar și tineri cu secrete bine ascunse. Firul narativ devine tot mai întortocheat, cu crime, coduri secrete, conspirații și schimbări de identitate. Deși acest stil este tipic Agathei Christie, aici am simțit că uneori a complicat inutil povestea, fără să creeze tensiunea pe care o așteptam.
Mi-au plăcut ideile de bază – farsa care duce la o moarte, cercul misterios al Celor Șapte Cadrane, investigatoarea amatoare care merge până la capăt – dar cred că romanul nu are același impact ca alte cărți ale autoarei. Mi s-a părut mai slab față de titluri precum „Crima din Orient Express” sau „Moarte pe Nil”, unde totul este mai clar, mai intens și mai bine construit.
Pentru mine, „Misterul celor șapte cadrane” a fost o lectură cu suișuri și coborâșuri. Are farmecul clasic, dar parcă s-a pierdut în prea multe piste false și personaje care apar și dispar fără un rol clar. Am terminat cartea cu o ușoară dezamăgire, dar și cu respect pentru stilul unic al Agathei Christie.

„The Seven Dials Mystery” by Agatha Christie is a book that piqued my curiosity from the very beginning, but unfortunately, it didn’t maintain its rhythm throughout. I appreciated the atmosphere typical of Christie’s novels and that classic British mystery feel, but at times the story felt overly complicated without offering real satisfaction.
It all begins in a country house, Chimneys, where a group of young people gather for a relaxing weekend. Among them is Gerry Wade, a young man known for sleeping too much. His friends decide to play a prank on him: they place eight alarm clocks in his room to make sure he wakes up early. But the prank turns into a nightmare—Gerry is found dead the next morning, and one of the clocks is missing. That’s where it all begins…
The character that pleasantly surprised me the most was Bundle Brent, a brave and intelligent young woman who doesn’t stand by when things get dangerous. She feels that Gerry’s death wasn’t an accident and decides to investigate on her own. Bundle soon finds herself entangled in a mystery far bigger than she imagined, one that involves a secret society called The Seven Dials.
As the investigation unfolds, more and more characters appear, some more enigmatic than others: Lady Coote, Lord Caterham, Superintendent Battle, and several young people with well-hidden secrets. The narrative thread becomes increasingly tangled, with murders, secret codes, conspiracies, and identity changes. Although this style is typical of Agatha Christie, here I felt it sometimes overcomplicated the plot without creating the suspense I was hoping for.
I liked the core ideas—the prank that leads to a death, the mysterious circle of the Seven Dials, the amateur sleuth who follows the truth to the end—but I believe the novel doesn’t have the same impact as other works by the author. It felt weaker compared to titles like „Murder on the Orient Express” or „Death on the Nile”, where everything is clearer, more intense, and better constructed.
For me, „The Seven Dials Mystery” was a read with ups and downs. It has that classic charm, but it seems to get lost in too many red herrings and characters who appear and disappear without a clear purpose. I finished the book with slight disappointment, but also with respect for Agatha Christie’s unique style.
