„O scenă pentru cei răi” a fost una dintre acele cărți care m-au surprins mai mult decât mă așteptam. Mi-a plăcut destul de mult și cred că primul lucru pe care trebuie să îl spun este că nu am mai citit până acum ceva asemănător. Autoarea reușește să îmbine fantasy-ul cu teatrul, magia și ideea de spectacol într-un mod foarte original. Încă de la început simți că pășești într-o lume diferită, unde scena nu este doar un loc pe care se joacă o piesă, ci un spațiu în care realitatea poate fi modelată, schimbată și chiar distrusă.
În această lume, zeii nu mai există, iar locul lor a fost luat de Interpreți, ființe aproape divine, admirate și temute în aceeași măsură. Arta lor merge mult dincolo de actorie, pentru că spectacolele pe care le pun în scenă au puterea de a influența oamenii și chiar realitatea din jur. Atmosfera creată de autoare este întunecată, misterioasă și fascinantă, iar ideea Casei Spectacolelor mi s-a părut una dintre cele mai interesante părți ale romanului.
Personajul principal, Riven Hesper, are doar optsprezece ani, însă poartă deja pe umeri povara unui blestem primit în urma unei întâlniri cu un Interpret. Blestemul o ucide încet, iar timpul devine cel mai mare dușman al ei. Atunci când Casa Spectacolelor organizează o competiție unică, în care un muritor are șansa de a dobândi nemurirea unui Interpret, Riven vede în aceasta singura posibilitate de a-și salva viața. Astfel ajunge să se infiltreze în competiție, unde îl cunoaște pe Jude, Interpretul Principal al Casei Spectacolelor. Jude este inteligent, carismatic și extrem de periculos, iar relația dintre cei doi pornește de la un târg riscant și evoluează într-un mod care mi-a stârnit curiozitatea pe tot parcursul cărții.
Recunosc că începutul nu a fost cel mai ușor pentru mine. Mi-a luat ceva timp să mă obișnuiesc cu regulile acestei lumi și să înțeleg exact cum funcționează magia, spectacolele și rolul Interpreților. La început am fost puțin confuză și am avut impresia că primesc foarte multe informații dintr-o dată. Totuși, pe măsură ce am continuat să citesc, lucrurile au început să capete sens, iar povestea m-a prins din ce în ce mai tare. Fără să îmi dau seama, am ajuns să fiu complet implicată în tot ceea ce li se întâmpla personajelor și să trăiesc alături de ele fiecare revelație și fiecare răsturnare de situație.
Unul dintre aspectele care mi-au plăcut cel mai mult a fost felul în care sunt construite personajele. Niciunul nu pare complet bun sau complet rău, iar fiecare ascunde secrete și motivații care sunt dezvăluite treptat. Mi-a plăcut faptul că nu le cunoști din prima, ci descoperi câte puțin despre ele cu fiecare capitol. Parcă fiecare nouă informație mai adaugă un strat personalității lor, iar acest lucru le face să pară reale și complexe. Riven evoluează mult pe parcursul poveștii, iar Jude este unul dintre acele personaje pe care nu reușești să le înțelegi pe deplin până aproape de final.
Pe lângă personaje, mi-au plăcut foarte mult misterele din jurul Casei Spectacolelor și modul în care adevărul este dezvăluit treptat. Povestea este plină de secrete, manipulări și momente în care nu mai știi în cine poți avea încredere. Mi s-a părut interesant faptul că romanul pune accent pe ideea că poveștile nu sunt doar spuse, ci pot fi schimbate și rescrise, iar acest lucru influențează destinele tuturor personajelor. Pe măsură ce Riven descoperă adevărul despre lumea în care trăiește și despre propriul ei rol în această poveste, apar tot mai multe întrebări și răsturnări de situație care schimbă complet perspectiva asupra evenimentelor.
Relația dintre Riven și Jude mi s-a părut bine construită și s-a dezvoltat într-un ritm natural. Mi-a plăcut că apropierea dintre ei nu este grăbită și că încrederea se construiește greu, printre suspiciuni, conflicte și secrete. Chiar dacă romantismul este prezent, nu eclipsează partea de fantasy, ci completează foarte bine întreaga poveste.
Per total, „O scenă pentru cei răi” a fost o lectură care m-a surprins plăcut. Nu este o carte pe care am înțeles-o imediat și nici una care m-a cucerit din primele pagini, însă cu fiecare capitol am devenit tot mai curioasă să aflu ce urmează. Originalitatea lumii, combinația dintre magie și teatru, personajele bine dezvoltate și atmosfera întunecată au făcut ca experiența de lectură să fie una memorabilă. Chiar dacă începutul a fost puțin mai dificil și am avut nevoie de timp pentru a mă acomoda cu universul creat de autoare, consider că a meritat din plin. Pentru mine a fost o lectură de 4 stele, pe care o recomand tuturor celor care își doresc un fantasy diferit, plin de mister, magie și personaje complexe.

“A Stage Set for Villains” was one of those books that surprised me more than I expected. I really enjoyed it, and I think the first thing I have to say is that I’ve never read anything quite like it before. The author successfully blends fantasy with theater, magic, and the idea of performance in a truly original way. From the very beginning, you feel like you’re stepping into a different world, where the stage is not just a place where a play is performed, but a space where reality itself can be shaped, altered, and even destroyed.
In this world, the gods no longer exist, and their place has been taken by the Performers—beings who are almost divine, admired and feared in equal measure. Their art goes far beyond acting, as the performances they create have the power to influence people and even reshape the reality around them. The atmosphere the author creates is dark, mysterious, and captivating, and I found the House of Performances to be one of the most intriguing aspects of the novel.
The main character, Riven Hesper, is only eighteen years old, yet she already carries the burden of a curse she received after an encounter with a Performer. The curse is slowly killing her, making time her greatest enemy. When the House of Performances announces a one-of-a-kind competition in which a mortal has the chance to gain the immortality of a Performer, Riven sees it as her only opportunity to save her life. She infiltrates the competition and meets Jude, the Head Performer of the House of Performances. Jude is intelligent, charismatic, and incredibly dangerous, and their relationship begins with a risky bargain before developing in a way that kept me intrigued throughout the entire book.
I have to admit that the beginning wasn’t the easiest for me. It took me some time to get used to the rules of this world and understand exactly how the magic, the performances, and the Performers worked. At first, I felt a little confused and overwhelmed by the amount of information being introduced. However, as I kept reading, everything gradually started to make sense, and I became more and more invested in the story. Before I knew it, I was completely immersed in everything the characters were going through, experiencing every revelation and every twist right alongside them.
One of my favorite aspects of the book was the way the characters were written. None of them felt entirely good or entirely evil, and each one hid secrets and motivations that were revealed little by little. I loved that you don’t fully understand them right away—you discover something new about them with every chapter. Each new piece of information adds another layer to their personalities, making them feel realistic and complex. Riven undergoes significant growth throughout the story, while Jude is one of those characters you never fully understand until almost the very end.
Beyond the characters, I also loved the mysteries surrounding the House of Performances and the way the truth is revealed gradually. The story is filled with secrets, manipulation, and moments where you genuinely don’t know who you can trust. I found it especially interesting that the novel emphasizes the idea that stories are not just told—they can be changed and rewritten, and in doing so, they shape the destinies of everyone involved. As Riven uncovers the truth about the world she lives in and her own role within it, more and more questions arise, along with twists that completely change your perspective on everything that has happened.
I also thought the relationship between Riven and Jude was well developed and progressed at a natural pace. I appreciated that their growing connection wasn’t rushed and that trust was built slowly through suspicion, conflict, and shared secrets. Although there is romance, it never overshadows the fantasy elements; instead, it complements the story beautifully.
Overall, “A Stage Set for Villains” was a book that pleasantly surprised me. It wasn’t a story I immediately understood, nor one that completely won me over from the very first pages. However, with every chapter, I became more curious to find out what would happen next. The originality of the world, the blend of magic and theater, the well-developed characters, and the dark atmosphere made this a truly memorable reading experience. Even though the beginning was a bit challenging and it took me some time to adjust to the world the author created, I definitely think it was worth it. For me, this was a 4-star read, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a unique fantasy filled with mystery, magic, and complex characters.
