Mi-a plăcut enorm această carte și cred că Richard Osman reușește din nou să creeze exact genul acela de poveste care te face să citești „încă un capitol”, iar apoi să realizezi că au trecut câteva ore fără să simți. Încă de la seria „Clubul Crimelor de Joi” eram deja cucerită de stilul lui de scriere, de felul în care îmbină misterul cu umorul și cu momentele emoționante, iar „Noi rezolvăm crime” nu m-a dezamăgit deloc. Din contră, mi-a dat senzația aceea plăcută că mă întorc într-un univers familiar, doar că alături de personaje noi, la fel de interesante și de bine construite.
Povestea îi are în centru pe Steve Wheeler și pe nora lui, Amy Wheeler, doi oameni complet diferiți, dar care funcționează surprinzător de bine împreună. Steve și-a găsit liniștea după pensionare și pare genul de om care apreciază micile rutine ale vieții. Își petrece zilele între concursurile de cultură generală de la pub, locurile lui preferate din cartier și motanul care îl așteaptă acasă. Pentru el, viața aventuroasă pare să fie doar o amintire îndepărtată. În schimb, Amy trăiește exact opusul. Lucrează ca bodyguard personal și este obișnuită cu pericolul, cu deciziile luate în grabă și cu situațiile tensionate. În momentul în care trebuie să o protejeze pe celebra scriitoare Rosie D’Antonio, lucrurile scapă rapid de sub control: apare un cadavru, o geantă plină cu bani și un criminal care pare hotărât să nu se oprească până nu îi găsește.
De aici începe o aventură alertă, care le poartă pe personaje prin diferite locuri și situații periculoase, dar totul este spus într-un stil atât de natural și de amuzant încât lectura devine extrem de captivantă. Mi-a plăcut mult că autorul nu transformă povestea doar într-un thriller clasic, ci păstrează permanent acel echilibru între tensiune, replici inteligente și momente sensibile. Sunt multe scene care m-au făcut să zâmbesc, chiar și atunci când situația devenea complicată sau periculoasă.
Steve a fost, fără îndoială, personajul meu preferat. Este genul acela de personaj care nu încearcă să impresioneze, dar care reușește să fie memorabil tocmai prin naturalețea lui. Are o minte extrem de ascuțită și observă detalii sau legături pe care ceilalți le scapă din vedere, iar felul în care analizează situațiile mi s-a părut fascinant. În același timp, Richard Osman îl face să pară foarte uman și apropiat de cititor. Momentele în care vorbește despre Debbie, soția lui care a murit cu câțiva ani în urmă, au adăugat multă emoție poveștii. Nu sunt scene exagerat de dramatice, ci unele sincere și delicate, care îl fac pe Steve foarte ușor de îndrăgit și de înțeles.
Și celelalte personaje au fost construite foarte bine. Amy este curajoasă, impulsivă și obișnuită să acționeze rapid, iar dinamica dintre ea și Steve funcționează excelent. Rosie D’Antonio aduce și ea mult farmec poveștii prin energia ei și prin felul extravagant de a fi. Împreună formează o echipă haotică și amuzantă, dar tocmai asta face cartea atât de plăcută.
Misterul este construit foarte bine și reușește să te țină în suspans pe tot parcursul lecturii. Pe măsură ce apar noi indicii și noi pericole, devine tot mai greu să îți dai seama în cine pot avea încredere personajele și ce se ascunde, de fapt, în spatele întregii povești. Mi-a plăcut că autorul oferă constant informații noi și că acțiunea nu stagnează niciodată.
Un alt lucru care a făcut lectura foarte fluentă au fost capitolele scurte. Cartea se citește incredibil de repede tocmai pentru că fiecare capitol se termină într-un moment care te face să vrei să continui imediat. Ritmul este foarte bine păstrat, iar combinația dintre mister, umor și emoție funcționează perfect.
Pentru mine, „Noi rezolvăm crime” a fost exact genul de carte de care este greu să te desprinzi. Are personaje memorabile, un mister bine construit și acel stil cald și amuzant care îl face pe Richard Osman atât de special. Dacă aceasta este doar începutul noii serii, atunci sunt foarte curioasă să văd ce urmează.

I absolutely loved this book, and I think Richard Osman manages once again to create exactly that kind of story that makes you read “just one more chapter” and then realize a few hours have passed without even noticing. Ever since the “Thursday Murder Club” series, I had already fallen in love with his writing style, with the way he blends mystery, humor, and emotional moments, and “We Solve Murders” did not disappoint me at all. On the contrary, it gave me that comforting feeling of returning to a familiar world, only this time alongside new characters who are just as interesting and well developed.
The story follows Steve Wheeler and his daughter-in-law, Amy Wheeler, two completely different people who somehow work surprisingly well together. Steve has found peace after retirement and seems like the kind of person who appreciates the small routines of everyday life. He spends his days between pub quizzes, his favorite local spots, and the cat waiting for him at home. For him, an adventurous life feels like a distant memory. Amy, on the other hand, lives the exact opposite kind of life. She works as a personal bodyguard and is used to danger, split-second decisions, and tense situations. When she is assigned to protect the famous author Rosie D’Antonio, things quickly spiral out of control: a dead body appears, along with a bag full of money and a killer who seems determined not to stop until he finds them.
From that point on, the story turns into a fast-paced adventure that takes the characters through different places and dangerous situations, but everything is told in such a natural and funny way that the reading experience becomes incredibly addictive. I really liked that the author does not turn the story into just a classic thriller, but constantly maintains that perfect balance between tension, clever dialogue, and emotional moments. There were many scenes that made me smile, even when things became complicated or dangerous.
Steve was, without a doubt, my favorite character. He is the kind of character who never tries to impress anyone, yet still becomes memorable precisely because of how natural he feels. He has an incredibly sharp mind and notices details or connections that others overlook, and I found the way he analyzes situations fascinating. At the same time, Richard Osman makes him feel very human and relatable. The moments when he talks about Debbie, his wife who passed away a few years earlier, added a lot of emotion to the story. These are not overly dramatic scenes, but sincere and delicate ones that make Steve very easy to love and understand.
The other characters were also very well written. Amy is brave, impulsive, and used to acting quickly, and her dynamic with Steve works perfectly. Rosie D’Antonio also brings a lot of charm to the story with her energy and extravagant personality. Together, they form a chaotic and entertaining team, and that is exactly what makes the book so enjoyable.
The mystery itself is very well constructed and manages to keep you hooked throughout the entire book. As new clues and new dangers appear, it becomes harder and harder to figure out who the characters can trust and what is really hiding behind the whole story. I liked that the author constantly introduces new information and that the plot never loses momentum.
Another thing that made the book flow so well was the short chapters. The novel reads incredibly quickly because every chapter ends at a moment that makes you want to continue immediately. The pacing is handled very well, and the combination of mystery, humor, and emotion works perfectly.
For me, “We Solve Murders” was exactly the kind of book that is difficult to put down. It has memorable characters, a well-crafted mystery, and that warm and funny style that makes Richard Osman so special. If this is only the beginning of the new series, then I am very excited to see what comes next.
