„Casa strâmbă” de Agatha Christie este una dintre cele mai bune cărți polițiste pe care le-am citit în ultima vreme, reușind să mă surprindă încă de la primele pagini. Nu este doar o anchetă clasică, ci o explorare a unei familii complicate, unde toți au ceva de ascuns.
Povestea este spusă de Charles Hayward, un tânăr diplomat care se întoarce în Anglia după război și își dorește să se căsătorească cu Sophia Leonides. Dar planurile lor sunt amânate când bunicul Sophiei, bogatul și influentul Aristide Leonides, este găsit mort în conacul familiei. Deși moartea pare naturală la început, curând devine clar că a fost otrăvit, iar criminalul se află printre membrii familiei.
Casa în care locuiesc toți – o casă mare, dar ciudată, construită „strâmb” – devine un simbol al legăturilor tensionate dintre personaje. Fiecare membru al familiei este bine conturat și are propriile motive: Sophia este calmă și inteligentă, dar pare să știe mai mult decât spune; fratele ei, Eustace, este cinic și sarcastic, iar sora mai mică, Josephine, este pasionată de spionaj și își notează totul într-un jurnal; tatăl lor, Philip, pare supus, iar mama lor, Magda, este o actriță exagerată, mereu în roluri dramatice. Mai este și Brenda, tânăra soție a bătrânului Aristide, care este principalul suspect, fiind mult mai tânără decât el și având o relație suspectă cu profesorul copiilor.
Ce mi-a plăcut cel mai mult a fost atmosfera – acea tensiune care crește cu fiecare pagină, acel sentiment că oricare dintre ei poate fi vinovat. Agatha Christie reușește să te facă să te îndoiești de toți, iar finalul… este pur și simplu șocant! Nu l-am ghicit deloc, și totuși, când l-am aflat, am realizat că totul fusese acolo, sub ochii mei.
Această carte nu este doar despre crimă, ci și despre familie, despre secrete care macină sufletul și despre cât de departe poate merge cineva pentru a obține ce-și dorește.
Pentru mine, „Casa strâmbă” a fost o lectură fascinantă, cu personaje memorabile și o poveste care m-a ținut cu sufletul la gură. O recomand oricui iubește misterele bine scrise și finalurile care te lasă cu gura căscată!

„Crooked House” by Agatha Christie is one of the best detective novels I’ve read lately, managing to surprise me from the very first pages. It’s not just a classic investigation, but also an exploration of a complicated family where everyone has something to hide.
The story is told by Charles Hayward, a young diplomat who returns to England after the war and wants to marry Sophia Leonides. But their plans are put on hold when Sophia’s grandfather, the wealthy and influential Aristide Leonides, is found dead in the family mansion. Although his death seems natural at first, it soon becomes clear that he was poisoned—and the killer is one of the family members.
The house they all live in—a large but strange home, built “crooked”—becomes a symbol of the tense relationships between the characters. Each family member is well-developed and has their own motives: Sophia is calm and intelligent but seems to know more than she lets on; her brother Eustace is cynical and sarcastic, while the younger sister, Josephine, is obsessed with spying and writes everything down in her notebook; their father, Philip, appears submissive, and their mother, Magda, is an over-the-top actress who’s always playing dramatic roles. Then there’s Brenda, the young wife of the elderly Aristide, who is the main suspect—much younger than him and suspiciously close to the children’s tutor.
What I liked most was the atmosphere—the tension that builds with every page, the constant feeling that any one of them could be guilty. Agatha Christie masterfully makes you doubt everyone, and the ending… is simply shocking! I didn’t see it coming at all, and yet, once revealed, I realized the clues had been there all along, right in front of me.
This book is not just about a murder, but also about family, about the kind of secrets that eat away at the soul, and about how far someone is willing to go to get what they want.
For me, „Crooked House” was a fascinating read, filled with memorable characters and a story that kept me on the edge of my seat. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves well-written mysteries and jaw-dropping endings!
