„Proiectul Hail Mary” de Andy Weir este una dintre acele cărți science-fiction care reușesc să îmbine aventura spațială, misterul și umorul într-un mod foarte accesibil. Nu este surprinzător faptul că romanul a devenit un bestseller internațional și a fost finalist la prestigioasele premii Hugo în 2022. Deși este o poveste construită în jurul unor concepte științifice complexe, autorul reușește să le explice într-un mod simplu și captivant, astfel încât lectura să fie plăcută chiar și pentru cei care nu citesc în mod obișnuit SF.
Povestea îl are în centru pe Ryland Grace, un profesor de științe care se trezește singur la bordul unei nave spațiale, fără să își amintească cine este sau cum a ajuns acolo. În jurul său se află doar doi membri ai echipajului care nu au supraviețuit călătoriei, iar singurele răspunsuri vin treptat, prin fragmente de memorie care reapar pe măsură ce înaintează în misiune. Mi-a plăcut mult felul în care autorul a construit acest mister încă de la început. Cititorul descoperă adevărul în același ritm cu personajul principal, iar fiecare nouă amintire adaugă o piesă importantă la puzzle.
Ryland este un protagonist foarte bine conturat, unul dintre motivele pentru care povestea funcționează atât de bine. Nu este un erou perfect și nici un geniu imposibil de înțeles. Este un om obișnuit pus într-o situație extraordinară, iar reacțiile lui par autentice și credibile. Are momente de teamă, nesiguranță și îndoială, dar și momente în care dovedește curaj și ingeniozitate. Tocmai această latură umană l-a făcut să fie un personaj ușor de apreciat și de urmărit pe parcursul întregii aventuri.
Un alt aspect care mi-a plăcut foarte mult a fost stilul lui Andy Weir. Deși miza poveștii este uriașă, salvarea întregii omeniri de la extincție, cartea nu devine niciodată apăsătoare. Pe măsură ce misterul se dezvăluie, acțiunea rămâne constantă și reușește să mențină interesul cititorului. In addition, the arrival of a completely unexpected ally transforms the adventure into a touching story about friendship, cooperation, and trust, even between very different beings.

Although there were a few moments when the technical explanations were more detailed than I would have preferred, the reading experience remained highly enjoyable. „Project Hail Mary” is a captivating, intelligent, and surprising novel that showcases Andy Weir’s talent for turning science into an adventure that is impossible to put down.
