„Cu drag, mama” de Iliana Xander este genul de thriller psihologic care te atrage încă de la primele pagini, promițând o poveste intensă, plină de mister și răsturnări de situație. Am început cartea cu mult entuziasm, mai ales pentru că o văzusem peste tot și eram curioasă dacă se ridică la nivelul așteptărilor. Și, deși începutul nu m-a cucerit complet, pot spune că a fost o lectură care merită descoperită.
Povestea o urmărește pe Mackenzie Casper, o tânără inteligentă și ambițioasă, care trăiește în umbra mamei sale celebre, o autoare de thrillere întunecate, fascinantă pentru public, dar în același timp misterioasă chiar și pentru propria fiică. Viața lui Mackenzie se schimbă radical atunci când mama ei moare într-un accident suspect. Din acel moment, totul începe să se destrame: imaginea perfectă a familiei, amintirile din copilărie și, mai ales, adevărul despre cine a fost cu adevărat femeia pe care o admira.
Intriga devine din ce în ce mai tensionată în momentul în care Mackenzie începe să primească scrisori anonime, semnate „fanul nr. 1”. Fiecare plic conține fragmente din jurnalul mamei sale, iar acele rânduri au un ton tulburător, aproape confesional: „Vrei să știi un secret? Cu drag, mama.” De aici începe o adevărată cursă contra cronometru, în care Mackenzie încearcă să descopere adevărul, dar cu fiecare pas înainte, lucrurile devin tot mai complicate și mai întunecate.
Trebuie să recunosc că prima parte a cărții mi s-a părut mai lentă. Mi-a fost puțin greu să intru în ritmul poveștii, pentru că acțiunea se construiește treptat, iar la început pare că nu se întâmplă foarte multe și că firele nu se leagă clar. Totuși, pe măsură ce am continuat lectura, lucrurile au început să capete sens, iar tensiunea a crescut considerabil.
Unul dintre punctele forte ale cărții sunt personajele. Mackenzie este un personaj bine conturat, cu emoții reale, confuzie și dorința de a afla adevărul, chiar dacă acesta ar putea să o distrugă. Mama ei, deși absentă fizic, este prezentă în fiecare pagină prin scrisori și amintiri, fiind învăluită într-un mister care te face să te întrebi constant cine a fost cu adevărat. Mi-a plăcut faptul că fiecare personaj pare să ascundă ceva, iar adevărul se dezvăluie treptat, exact cât să te țină prins în poveste.
Pe parcurs, cartea devine din ce în ce mai captivantă, iar răsturnările de situație chiar reușesc să surprindă. Unele dezvăluiri m-au luat complet pe nepregătite și m-au făcut să privesc totul dintr-o altă perspectivă. Este genul de poveste care te face să te întrebi cât de departe poate merge cineva pentru succes, pentru faimă sau pentru a-și proteja secretele.
Finalul aduce acea doză de șoc și claritate care te face să reevaluezi tot ce ai citit până atunci. Mi-a plăcut că nu este o poveste previzibilă și că păstrează suspansul până la final, oferind câteva momente care chiar te pun pe gânduri.
Per total, „Cu drag, mama” este un thriller psihologic intens și bine construit, cu o atmosferă misterioasă și câteva twisturi memorabile. Deși începutul poate părea mai greu, merită răbdarea, pentru că a doua jumătate compensează din plin. Este o carte care m-a ținut captivă în poveste și care mi-a stârnit multe întrebări despre adevăr, identitate și limitele pe care suntem dispuși să le depășim pentru ceea ce ne dorim.

I started the book with a lot of excitement, especially since I had seen it everywhere and was curious whether it would live up to expectations. And although the beginning didn’t completely captivate me, I can say it’s a read worth discovering.
The story follows Mackenzie Casper, an intelligent and ambitious young woman who lives in the shadow of her famous mother, a writer of dark thrillers—fascinating to the public, yet mysterious even to her own daughter. Mackenzie’s life changes drastically when her mother dies in a suspicious accident. From that moment on, everything begins to fall apart: the perfect image of her family, her childhood memories, and most of all, the truth about who the woman she admired really was.
The plot becomes increasingly tense when Mackenzie starts receiving anonymous letters signed “fan no. 1.” Each envelope contains fragments from her mother’s journal, and those lines have a disturbing, almost confessional tone: “Do you want to know a secret? Love, Mom.” From here begins a real race against time, in which Mackenzie tries to uncover the truth, but with every step forward, things become more complicated and darker.
I have to admit that the first part of the book felt slower to me. It was a bit hard to get into the rhythm of the story because the action builds gradually, and at first it seems like not much is happening and the threads don’t clearly connect. However, as I continued reading, things started to make sense, and the tension increased significantly.
One of the book’s strong points is its characters. Mackenzie is well-developed, with real emotions, confusion, and a strong desire to uncover the truth—even if it might destroy her. Her mother, although physically absent, is present on every page through letters and memories, surrounded by a mystery that constantly makes you question who she really was. I liked the fact that every character seems to be hiding something, and the truth is revealed gradually—just enough to keep you hooked.
As the story progresses, it becomes more and more gripping, and the plot twists truly manage to surprise. Some revelations completely caught me off guard and made me see everything from a different perspective. It’s the kind of story that makes you wonder how far someone can go for success, fame, or to protect their secrets.
The ending brings that dose of shock and clarity that makes you reevaluate everything you’ve read up to that point. I liked that it’s not a predictable story and that it maintains suspense until the very end, offering a few moments that really make you think.
Overall, “Love, Mom” is an intense and well-crafted psychological thriller, with a mysterious atmosphere and some memorable twists. Although the beginning may feel a bit slow, it’s worth the patience because the second half more than makes up for it. It’s a book that kept me captivated and raised many questions about truth, identity, and the limits we are willing to cross for what we want.
