„Glasul pădurii” de Liz Moore este o carte pe care o aveam de mult timp pe listă și recunosc că m-am bucurat sincer când, în sfârșit, i-a venit rândul. A fost o lectură care m-a prins, dar nu neapărat în modul în care mă așteptam, ceea ce a făcut experiența și mai interesantă.
Povestea ne duce într-un decor apăsător, dominat de pădure și de secretele ei, unde dispariția unei persoane scoate la suprafață un trecut complicat. Cartea alternează între prezent și trecut, iar această structură ne ajută să înțelegem treptat cum s-au format legăturile dintre personaje. Avem mai multe perspective, fiecare personaj venind cu propriile traume, alegeri și greșeli. Uneori am simțit că trebuie să fiu foarte atentă ca să țin pasul cu toate aceste fire narative, mai ales când povestea sare între perioade diferite de timp.
Personajele sunt construite cu multă grijă. Nu sunt perfecte și tocmai de aceea par reale. Fiecare ascunde ceva, iar pe măsură ce înaintezi în carte începi să înțelegi de ce au ajuns în punctul în care sunt. Mi-a plăcut cum autoarea nu se grăbește să le dezvăluie secretele, ci lasă totul să se așeze încet, strat cu strat. Relațiile dintre ele sunt complicate, uneori tensionate, iar trecutul are un impact puternic asupra prezentului.
Deși cartea este promovată ca un thriller, pentru mine nu a avut neapărat acel ritm alert sau acea tensiune constantă specifică genului. Am simțit-o mai mult ca pe o combinație între mister și ficțiune istorică, cu accent pe construcția poveștii și pe evoluția personajelor. Acesta este unul dintre motivele pentru care nu i-am oferit punctaj maxim. În plus, pe alocuri, multitudinea de personaje și schimbările de plan temporal au făcut lectura puțin mai dificilă.
Este, totuși, o carte care merită citită cu răbdare. Nu este genul de poveste care te lovește imediat cu revelații, ci una care se construiește încet, cu grijă. Misterul se dezvăluie abia spre final, iar până acolo fiecare capitol adaugă câte o piesă din puzzle. Tocmai acest ritm lent m-a făcut să apreciez mai mult finalul, pentru că simți că totul are sens și că nimic nu a fost întâmplător.
Per total, mi-a plăcut destul de mult această carte. Nu a fost exact ceea ce mă așteptam, dar a reușit să mă țină implicată și curioasă. Este o lectură potrivită pentru cei care apreciază poveștile construite în detaliu, cu personaje complexe și secrete bine ascunse, chiar dacă nu oferă adrenalina clasică a unui thriller.

“The God of the Woods” by Liz Moore is a book that had been on my list for a long time, and I admit I was genuinely happy when, finally, its turn came. It was a captivating read, though not necessarily in the way I expected, which made the experience even more interesting.
The story takes us into an oppressive setting, dominated by the forest and its secrets, where a person’s disappearance brings a complicated past to the surface. The book alternates between present and past, and this structure gradually helps us understand how the connections between the characters were formed. We get multiple perspectives, each character carrying their own traumas, choices, and mistakes. At times, I felt I had to pay very close attention to keep up with all these narrative threads, especially when the story jumps between different time periods.
The characters are very carefully developed. They are not perfect, and that’s exactly what makes them feel real. Each one is hiding something, and as you move forward, you begin to understand how they ended up where they are. I liked how the author doesn’t rush to reveal their secrets, but instead lets everything unfold slowly, layer by layer. The relationships between them are complex, sometimes tense, and the past has a strong impact on the present.
Although the book is marketed as a thriller, for me it didn’t quite have that fast pace or constant tension typical of the genre. I experienced it more as a blend of mystery and historical fiction, with a strong focus on storytelling and character development. This is one of the reasons I didn’t give it a perfect rating. Additionally, at times, the large number of characters and the shifts in timeline made the reading a bit more challenging.
Still, it’s a book worth reading with patience. It’s not the kind of story that hits you immediately with big revelations, but rather one that builds slowly and carefully. The mystery only fully unfolds toward the end, and until then, each chapter adds another piece to the puzzle. It was precisely this slow pace that made me appreciate the ending more, because everything falls into place and nothing feels accidental.
Overall, I liked this book quite a lot. It wasn’t exactly what I expected, but it managed to keep me engaged and curious. It’s a great read for those who appreciate detailed storytelling, complex characters, and well-hidden secrets, even if it doesn’t deliver the classic adrenaline of a thriller.
