„Părăsită la altar” de Vi Keeland este una dintre acele cărți care se citesc ușor și care reușesc să te scoată, măcar pentru câteva ore, din rutina de zi cu zi. Nu este un romance care încearcă să revoluționeze genul, însă oferă exact ceea ce promite: o poveste plăcută, personaje simpatice, momente amuzante și o doză potrivită de romantism. Pentru mine este genul de lectură perfectă pentru vacanță sau pentru o perioadă în care simți nevoia de ceva relaxant, fără să fie foarte încărcat emoțional.
Povestea o are în centrul atenției pe Sloane, jurnalistă la o revistă dedicată nunților, care trece printr-o experiență umilitoare după ce este părăsită chiar în ziua propriei nunți. În loc să aibă timp să se vindece, primește o nouă sarcină profesională: să participe și să scrie despre douăsprezece nunți în următorul an. Pentru cineva care tocmai și-a văzut visul destrămat, această misiune pare mai degrabă o pedeapsă decât o oportunitate. Totuși, tocmai această serie de evenimente o aduce mai aproape de Wilder Hayes, fiul patronului, iar de aici începe o poveste despre încredere, redescoperire și a doua șansă.
Wilder este, fără îndoială, unul dintre punctele forte ale romanului. Nu este tipul clasic de erou care impresionează doar prin aspectul fizic, ci prin felul în care este atent la oamenii din jur. Observă detalii pe care ceilalți le ignoră și are grijă de Sloane fără să o facă să se simtă vulnerabilă sau neajutorată. Mi-a plăcut că o susține, îi respectă ambițiile și încearcă mereu să îi fie alături, chiar și atunci când ea ridică ziduri între ei. Relația lor se dezvoltă treptat, iar dinamica dintre cei doi este presărată cu replici amuzante, tachinări și momente care aduc un zâmbet pe buze.
Un alt aspect care mi-a plăcut a fost ideea celor douăsprezece nunți. Fiecare eveniment aduce personaje noi, situații diferite și contribuie la evoluția relației dintre Sloane și Wilder. În loc să fie doar decor, nunțile devin etape importante prin care cei doi ajung să se cunoască mai bine și să își înfrunte propriile temeri. Vi Keeland reușește să combine romantismul cu umorul și să creeze o atmosferă caldă, care face lectura foarte plăcută.
Cu toate acestea, au existat și câteva lucruri care m-au împiedicat să îi acord punctajul maxim. Mi-au plăcut personajele și interacțiunile dintre ele, însă, pe alocuri, am avut impresia că relației lor îi lipsește puțină profunzime. Unele conflicte ar fi putut fi rezolvate mai simplu dacă cei doi ar fi comunicat mai deschis, iar în anumite momente tocmai lipsa dialogului a creat tensiuni care mi s-au părut puțin forțate. Mi-ar fi plăcut să văd mai multe conversații sincere și mai multă dezvoltare emoțională.
De asemenea, povestea este destul de previzibilă în unele momente, mai ales dacă sunteți obișnuiți cu romanele contemporane de dragoste. Multe dintre întorsăturile de situație pot fi anticipate încă de la început. Totuși, nu am simțit că acest lucru mi-a diminuat plăcerea lecturii. Am ales să mă las purtată de atmosferă și să mă bucur de parcursul personajelor, fără să mă concentrez foarte mult pe surprize. Până la urmă, uneori exact genul acesta de poveste ai nevoie să citești atunci când vrei doar să te relaxezi și să uiți pentru câteva ore de stresul cotidian.
Mi-a plăcut și stilul lui Vi Keeland, care este fluid și foarte ușor de urmărit. Dialogurile sunt naturale, există suficient umor încât lectura să nu devină monotonă, iar romantismul este construit treptat, fără să pară grăbit. Autoarea reușește încă o dată să creeze o poveste care te face să rămâi alături de personaje până la final și să le urmărești evoluția cu interes.
Per total, „Părăsită la altar” este un romance reușit despre vindecare, curajul de a o lua de la capăt și despre oamenii care apar în viața ta exact atunci când ai cea mai mare nevoie de ei. Este genul de carte care te invită să îi dai o șansă și care te cucerește treptat prin chimia dintre personaje, umor și momentele emoționante. Chiar dacă nu este lipsită de clișee și nici nu m-a surprins foarte mult, am terminat-o cu zâmbetul pe buze și cu sentimentul că am petrecut câteva ore într-o poveste frumoasă. Din acest motiv, pentru mine rămâne o lectură de 4 stele, pe care o recomand tuturor celor care își doresc un romance contemporan relaxant, ideal pentru concediu sau pentru serile în care vor pur și simplu să evadeze din realitate.
Jilted – Vi Keeland
“Jilted” by Vi Keeland is one of those books that’s easy to read and manages to pull you out of your everyday routine, even if only for a few hours. It’s not a romance that tries to reinvent the genre, but it delivers exactly what it promises: an enjoyable story, likable characters, funny moments, and just the right amount of romance. For me, it’s the perfect kind of read for a vacation or for those times when you’re craving something light and relaxing without being overly emotionally intense.
The story centers on Sloane, a journalist for a wedding magazine, who goes through the humiliating experience of being left at the altar on her own wedding day. Before she has time to recover, she’s assigned a new work project: attending and writing about twelve weddings over the course of the next year. For someone whose dream has just been shattered, this assignment feels more like a punishment than an opportunity. Yet it’s this very series of events that brings her closer to Wilder Hayes, the owner’s son, and from there begins a story about trust, self-discovery, and second chances.
Wilder is undoubtedly one of the novel’s greatest strengths. He isn’t the typical romantic hero who stands out solely because of his good looks; instead, what makes him memorable is how thoughtful and attentive he is toward the people around him. He notices the little things others overlook and takes care of Sloane without ever making her feel vulnerable or helpless. I loved how supportive he is, how he respects her ambitions, and how he’s always there for her, even when she builds walls between them. Their relationship develops gradually, and the chemistry between them is filled with witty banter, playful teasing, and plenty of smile-worthy moments.
Another aspect I really enjoyed was the concept of the twelve weddings. Each event introduces new characters and different situations while also contributing to the development of Sloane and Wilder’s relationship. Rather than serving as mere backdrops, the weddings become important milestones that allow the two of them to get to know each other better and confront their own fears. Vi Keeland does a great job of blending romance with humor, creating a warm atmosphere that makes the novel incredibly enjoyable to read.
That said, there were a few things that kept me from giving it a perfect rating. While I genuinely liked the characters and their interactions, there were moments when I felt their relationship lacked a bit more emotional depth. Some of the conflicts could have been resolved much more easily if they had communicated more openly, and at times the lack of honest conversation created tension that felt a little forced. I would have loved to see more heartfelt discussions and greater emotional development between them.
The story is also fairly predictable at times, especially if you’re already familiar with contemporary romance novels. Many of the plot twists are easy to see coming from the very beginning. Still, I didn’t feel that this took away from my enjoyment of the book. Instead, I chose to simply immerse myself in the atmosphere and enjoy the characters’ journey without focusing too much on being surprised. After all, sometimes this is exactly the kind of story you want to read when you’re simply looking to relax and forget about everyday stress for a while.
I also enjoyed Vi Keeland’s writing style, which is smooth and incredibly easy to follow. The dialogue feels natural, there’s enough humor to keep the story from ever becoming dull, and the romance unfolds at a steady pace without feeling rushed. Once again, the author succeeds in creating a story that keeps you invested in the characters until the very end and makes you genuinely care about their journey.
Overall, “Jilted” is an enjoyable romance about healing, finding the courage to start over, and the people who come into your life exactly when you need them most. It’s the kind of book that gradually wins you over through the chemistry between the characters, its humor, and its heartfelt moments. Although it isn’t free of clichés and didn’t surprise me all that much, I finished it with a smile on my face and the feeling that I had spent a few hours immersed in a lovely story. For that reason, it remains a 4-star read for me, and I would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a light contemporary romance—perfect for a vacation or for those evenings when you simply want to escape reality for a little while.
