„Împreună de Crăciun” de Lauren Asher este o nuvelă romantică, parte din universul seriei „Miliardarii de la Dreamland”, care ne invită să petrecem sărbătorile în pitorescul Lake Wisteria. Autoarea revine cu o poveste scurtă, plină de romantism, emoții și situații delicate, construită în jurul unei nunți de iarnă și a unor sentimente care refuză să rămână ascunse.
Catalina Martinez ajunge în Lake Wisteria pentru a fi domnișoară de onoare la nunta surorii sale — o situație deja complicată de faptul că mirele este fostul ei iubit. Dacă acest lucru nu ar fi fost suficient de stânjenitor, Catalina trebuie să petreacă mult timp alături de Luke Darling, cavalerul de onoare și cel mai bun prieten al fostului ei. Luke este fermecător, atent, încăpățânat și mult prea insistent pentru gustul ei, iar trecutul lor comun face ca fiecare interacțiune să fie încărcată de tensiune. Cu toate acestea, fiind o nuvelă, am simțit că totul se desfășoară prea repede. Acțiunea este grăbită, iar evoluția relației lor nu are suficient timp să se construiască natural. Chimia există, dar nu este explorată atât de profund pe cât mi-aș fi dorit, iar unele conflicte par rezolvate mult prea ușor.
Un alt aspect care m-a făcut să simt un mic dezechilibru este atmosfera poveștii. Deși este prezentată ca o poveste de Crăciun, vibe-ul general este mai degrabă axat pe pregătirile de nuntă decât pe magia sărbătorilor. Mi-ar fi plăcut să existe mai multe momente care să pună accent pe Crăciun în sine — decoruri, tradiții, emoții de sezon — pentru a simți cu adevărat că este o poveste de iarnă.
Per total, „Împreună de Crăciun” este o lectură ușoară, confortabilă și plăcută, perfectă pentru câteva ore relaxante, mai ales dacă ești deja fan al autoarei. Cu toate acestea, nu pot să nu simt că povestea ar fi avut nevoie de mai mult spațiu pentru a-și atinge adevăratul potențial. Deși iubesc romanele lui Lauren Asher și stilul ei, această nuvelă m-a lăsat ușor dezamăgită. A fost drăguță, dar prea scurtă și prea grăbită, iar din această cauză pentru mine rămâne o carte de trei stele, cu sentimentul că ar fi putut oferi mult mai mult.

“My December Darling” by Lauren Asher is a romantic novella, part of the „Dreamland Billionaires” universe, that invites us to spend the holidays in the picturesque Lake Wisteria. The author returns with a short story full of romance, emotions, and delicate situations, built around a winter wedding and feelings that refuse to stay hidden.
Catalina Martinez arrives in Lake Wisteria to be the maid of honor at her sister’s wedding—a situation already complicated by the fact that the groom is her ex-boyfriend. As if that weren’t awkward enough, Catalina has to spend a lot of time with Luke Darling, the best man and her ex’s best friend. Luke is charming, attentive, stubborn, and far too persistent for her taste, and their shared past makes every interaction charged with tension. Catalina tries to convince herself she isn’t interested in him, even though deep down she starts to wonder what it would have been like if Luke had been her first choice.
From Luke’s perspective, things are just as complicated. For years, he avoided Catalina out of loyalty to his friend, never allowing himself to think about what he might truly feel. Their reunion, however, changes everything. Even though he knows Catalina’s stay in Lake Wisteria is temporary and that she will leave in January, Luke decides to take a risk. He is determined to win her over, even if it means facing possible rejection and believing in a small Christmas miracle.
The relationship between Catalina and Luke features playful banter, witty exchanges, and romantic moments that retain Lauren Asher’s signature charm. However, since this is a novella, everything feels like it happens too quickly. The pacing is rushed, and their relationship doesn’t have enough time to develop naturally. The chemistry is there, but it isn’t explored as deeply as I would have liked, and some conflicts seem to be resolved far too easily.
Another aspect that left me feeling slightly off-balance is the overall atmosphere of the story. Although it’s presented as a Christmas tale, the general vibe focuses more on wedding preparations than on the magic of the holidays. I would have loved to see more moments that highlight Christmas itself—decorations, traditions, seasonal emotions—to truly feel that this is a winter story.
Overall, „My December Darling” is a light, cozy, and pleasant read, perfect for a few relaxing hours, especially if you’re already a fan of the author. Still, I can’t help but feel that the story needed more space to reach its true potential. Even though I love Lauren Asher’s novels and her writing style, this novella left me slightly disappointed. It was cute, but too short and too rushed, and for that reason, it remains a three-star read for me, with the sense that it could have offered much more.
