„Consecințe nemuritoare” de I. V. Marie este un fantasy dark academia intens și captivant, care m-a prins complet prin atmosfera sa întunecată, plină de mistere, intrigi, romantism și probe brutale. A fost o lectură care m-a ținut constant în tensiune și care mi-a confirmat, pagină după pagină, cât de mult îmi place acest subgen. Pentru mine, a fost genul de carte pe care o citești cu inima strânsă, dar și cu entuziasm, pentru că simți că orice este posibil și nimeni nu este cu adevărat în siguranță.
Acțiunea are loc la Academia Blackwood, o școală legendară aflată în purgatoriu, unde ajung sufletele după moarte. Absolvirea este singura șansă de a scăpa din acest loc, însă odată ce ai pășit pe porțile arcuite ale academiei, nu mai există cale de întoarcere. Conceptul mi s-a părut extrem de interesant: eternitatea nu este un final liniștitor, ci doar începutul unui nou drum, plin de reguli dure, ierarhii și examene. Deși ideea că există viață după moarte este fascinantă, nu pot să nu mă gândesc cât de puțini ar fi, de fapt, încântați să se trezească din nou într-o școală, obligați să învețe și să lupte pentru supraviețuire.
Inima poveștii este Decenalul, o competiție magică necruțătoare, singura cale de ieșire din academie. Anul acesta, șase dintre cei mai buni studenți de la Blackwood sunt aleși să participe. Șase rivali, dar un singur învingător. Probele sunt periculoase, uneori sângeroase, iar miza este uriașă: câștigul înseamnă libertate, iar pierderea poate însemna un destin mai rău decât moartea. Mi-a plăcut faptul că romanul folosește elemente clasice din fantasy-ul cu competiții, dar fără să devină previzibil, pentru că fiecare probă aduce tensiune reală și consecințe dureroase.
Personajele sunt un mare punct forte al cărții. Avem doi rivali academici extrem de puternici, legați printr-o relație complicată, aflată undeva între obsesie, ură și ceva mult mai profund. Două fete complet diferite: una mânată de ambiție pură, dispusă să sacrifice orice pentru victorie, și alta bântuită de amintirea unei iubiri pierdute, care încă o leagă de viața de dinainte. Și, bineînțeles, un playboy fermecător, obișnuit să nu-i pese de nimeni, până când apariția unui nou student îi dă lumea peste cap. Mi-a plăcut enorm dinamica dintre ei, chimia care se creează natural și felul în care relațiile evoluează sub presiunea competiției.
Un alt aspect care m-a cucerit a fost worldbuildingul. Lumea creată de autoare este complexă, bine gândită și extrem de ușor de imaginat. Academia, regulile purgatoriului, Eterul și secretele ascunse peste tot creează o atmosferă elegantă și apăsătoare în același timp. Pe alocuri, cartea mi-a dat un ușor vibe de „Harry Potter”, datorită cadrului academic și competițiilor, dar tonul este mult mai întunecat, mai matur și mai periculos. Nimic nu este sigur, iar în spatele fiecărui colț pare să se ascundă o conspirație.
Mi-a plăcut foarte mult și ideea că personajele tânjesc constant după lumea pe care au lăsat-o în urmă. Dorul de viața pierdută, de iubirile neterminate și de alegerile făcute prea târziu adaugă o încărcătură emoțională puternică. În plus, romanul sugerează subtil că dragostea poate traversa granițele dintre viață și moarte, ceea ce aduce un plus de sensibilitate într-o poveste altfel dură și nemiloasă.
Per total, „Consecințe nemuritoare” a fost o lectură care m-a încântat enorm. Un fantasy dark academia palpitant, plin de răsturnări de situație, personaje memorabile, replici ironice, secrete periculoase și dorințe neîmplinite. Finalul este intens, șocant și te lasă cu un gol, dar și cu o nerăbdare imensă. Pentru mine, a fost fără îndoială o carte de cinci stele și abia aștept volumul următor. Unele destine sunt, într-adevăr, mai rele decât moartea… iar Blackwood este dovada perfectă.

“Immortal Consequences” by I. V. Marie is an intense and gripping dark academia fantasy that completely drew me in through its dark atmosphere, filled with mystery, intrigue, romance, and brutal trials. It was a read that kept me in constant suspense and confirmed, page after page, just how much I love this subgenre. For me, it was the kind of book you read with a tight chest but also with excitement, because you feel that anything is possible and no one is truly safe.
The story takes place at Blackwood Academy, a legendary school located in purgatory, where souls arrive after death. Graduation is the only chance to escape this place, but once you step through the academy’s arched gates, there is no turning back. I found the concept extremely compelling: eternity is not a peaceful ending, but merely the beginning of a new path, filled with harsh rules, hierarchies, and exams. While the idea of life after death is fascinating, I couldn’t help thinking how few people would actually be thrilled to wake up in yet another school, forced to study and fight for survival.
At the heart of the story lies the Decennial, a merciless magical competition and the only way out of the academy. This year, six of Blackwood’s best students are chosen to compete. Six rivals, but only one winner. The trials are dangerous, sometimes bloody, and the stakes are enormous: victory means freedom, while failure can mean a fate worse than death. I loved how the novel uses classic fantasy competition elements without becoming predictable, as each trial brings real tension and painful consequences.
The characters are one of the book’s greatest strengths. We have two incredibly powerful academic rivals, bound by a complicated relationship that exists somewhere between obsession, hatred, and something much deeper. Two very different girls: one driven by pure ambition, willing to sacrifice anything for victory, and the other haunted by the memory of a lost love that still ties her to her former life. And, of course, a charming playboy who’s used to not caring about anyone—until the arrival of a new student turns his world upside down. I absolutely loved the dynamics between them, the natural chemistry, and the way their relationships evolve under the pressure of the competition.
Another aspect that won me over was the worldbuilding. The world the author created is complex, well thought out, and incredibly easy to visualize. The academy itself, the rules of purgatory, the Aether, and the secrets hidden everywhere create an atmosphere that is both elegant and oppressive. At times, the book gave me a slight „Harry Potter” vibe due to the academic setting and competitions, but the tone here is far darker, more mature, and far more dangerous. Nothing is safe, and behind every corner there seems to be a conspiracy waiting to be uncovered.
I also really loved the idea that the characters constantly yearn for the world they left behind. The longing for lost lives, unfinished loves, and choices made too late adds a powerful emotional weight. On top of that, the novel subtly suggests that love can cross the boundaries between life and death, bringing an added layer of tenderness to an otherwise harsh and merciless story.
Overall, “Immortal Consequences” was a reading experience I enjoyed immensely. A thrilling dark academia fantasy full of twists, memorable characters, sharp dialogue, dangerous secrets, and unfulfilled desires. The ending is intense and shocking, leaving you with an aching emptiness—and an overwhelming sense of anticipation. For me, this was without a doubt a five-star read, and I cannot wait for the next volume. Some destinies truly are worse than death… and Blackwood is the perfect proof.
