Am citit „Pistolarul”, primul volum din seria „Turnul întunecat”, cu multă curiozitate, mai ales pentru că este una dintre cele mai cunoscute serii ale lui Stephen King. Mă așteptam la un fantasy plin de acțiune, dar am descoperit o carte mai lentă, mai filozofică, uneori greu de urmărit, deși ideea din spatele ei mi s-a părut interesantă.
Personajul principal, Roland Deschain, este un pistolar misterios care străbate un deșert nesfârșit în căutarea Omului în Negru. Nu știm prea multe despre trecutul lui la început, dar simțim că poartă cu el o povară grea și o misiune aproape imposibilă. Mi-a plăcut cât de hotărât și rece este Roland, un adevărat luptător singuratic, dar uneori mi s-a părut prea distant, ca și cum nu puteam ajunge niciodată cu adevărat la el.
Pe parcursul drumului, Roland îl întâlnește pe Jake, un băiat venit parcă dintr-o altă lume. Relația dintre ei a fost partea mea preferată din carte – pentru prima dată, Roland pare uman, capabil de emoție. Dar, fiind o poveste întunecată, nimic nu rămâne liniștit prea mult timp. Decizia pe care o ia în privința lui Jake m-a surprins și m-a făcut să mă întreb dacă merită cu adevărat să ajungă la Turnul întunecat.
Atmosfera cărții este densă și ciudată – un amestec de western, fantasy și horror. King scrie poetic, dar uneori greoi, cu pasaje care m-au făcut să pierd firul. Am simțit că multe lucruri rămân neexplicate, iar lumea pe care o descrie este interesantă, dar greu de înțeles dintr-un singur volum. Poate că intenția lui a fost să ne atragă spre următoarele cărți, însă pentru mine începutul a fost mai mult confuz decât captivant.
În final, „Pistolarul” mi s-a părut o poveste cu potențial, dar greu de digerat. Admir imaginația lui Stephen King și ideea unei lumi distruse, unde magia și tehnologia coexistă, însă am simțit că lipsește emoția și claritatea. Este o carte care cere răbdare și atenție, dar nu reușește mereu să răsplătească cititorul.
Pentru mine, „Pistolarul” a fost un început promițător, dar prea întunecat și abstract pentru gustul meu. I-am oferit trei stele, pentru atmosfera aparte, pentru Roland și Jake, dar și pentru curajul lui King de a combina genuri atât de diferite într-un mod unic.
The Gunslinger – Stephen King (The Dark Tower, #1)
I read „The Gunslinger”, the first volume in „The Dark Tower” series, with great curiosity, especially since it’s one of Stephen King’s most famous works. I expected an action-packed fantasy, but instead I discovered a slower, more philosophical book—sometimes hard to follow, even though the idea behind it was intriguing.
The main character, Roland Deschain, is a mysterious gunslinger who crosses an endless desert in search of the Man in Black. We don’t know much about his past at first, but it’s clear that he carries a heavy burden and an almost impossible mission. I liked how determined and cold Roland is—a true lone fighter—but at times he felt too distant, as if I could never really reach him.
Along the way, Roland meets Jake, a boy who seems to have come from another world. Their relationship was my favorite part of the book—for the first time, Roland seems human, capable of emotion. But since this is a dark story, peace doesn’t last for long. The decision Roland makes regarding Jake surprised me and made me wonder whether he truly deserves to reach the Dark Tower.
The atmosphere of the book is dense and strange—a mix of western, fantasy, and horror. King writes poetically but sometimes heavily, with passages that made me lose track of the story. I felt that many things remain unexplained, and the world he describes is fascinating but difficult to grasp from just one volume. Perhaps his intention was to draw readers into the next books, but for me, the beginning felt more confusing than captivating.
In the end, „The Gunslinger” seemed like a story full of potential, but hard to digest. I admire Stephen King’s imagination and the concept of a ruined world where magic and technology coexist, yet I felt the book lacked emotion and clarity. It’s a story that demands patience and attention but doesn’t always reward the reader.
For me, „The Gunslinger” was a promising start, but too dark and abstract for my taste. I gave it three stars—for its unique atmosphere, for Roland and Jake, and for King’s courage to blend such different genres in a distinctive way.
