Am citit recent „Dragul meu mincinos” de James Patterson & David Ellis și încă mă gândesc la el. Este genul de thriller care te prinde din prima pagină și nu îți dă voie să respiri ușor. Mi-a plăcut cum povestea îmbină suspansul cu emoția, iar personajele par atât de reale încât simți că ai putea să le întâlnești pe strada ta.
David Bowers este tipul de bărbat care pare perfect. Este patronul unui pub din Hemingway Grove, un orășel liniștit din Illinois, și omul pe care toată lumea îl respectă. Îl vedem la început ca pe un erou local – sare în apele râului Cotton și salvează un necunoscut, devenind brusc faimos. Dar, pe măsură ce povestea avansează, începi să te întrebi dacă imaginea lui impecabilă ascunde ceva întunecat. Îmi place felul în care autorii reușesc să te facă să oscilezi între admirație și suspiciune.
Marcie, soția lui, este un personaj pe care l-am simțit aproape de mine. Avocată specializată în dreptul familiei, mamă devotată și femeie care își dorește doar stabilitate, ea reprezintă un amestec de putere și vulnerabilitate. Mi-a fost ușor să empatizez cu fricile și îndoielile ei. Pe măsură ce evenimentele scapă de sub control, Marcie începe să pună sub semnul întrebării tot ceea ce știa despre omul de lângă ea. Am simțit fiecare emoție alături de ea – șocul, furia, neputința.
Acțiunea este intensă și plină de răsturnări de situație. Totul pornește de la acel gest eroic, dar consecințele lui se extind ca niște valuri care lovesc tot mai puternic. Presa, străinii curioși și întrebările incomode transformă viața lor aparent perfectă într-un coșmar. Fiecare capitol este scurt, alert și te lasă cu dorința de a afla ce urmează. Exact când crezi că ai înțeles jocul, autorii schimbă regulile.
Ce m-a atins cel mai mult a fost tema încrederii și a aparențelor. Cartea nu este doar despre un posibil criminal sau o minciună periculoasă, ci despre cât de bine îi cunoaștem cu adevărat pe cei pe care îi iubim. M-am surprins întrebându-mă ce aș face dacă aș descoperi că omul lângă care trăiesc are un secret care poate distruge totul.
Pentru mine, „Dragul meu mincinos” merită cinci stele. Are personaje credibile și complexe, suspans constant și un final care te lasă cu gura căscată. Este o lectură perfectă pentru cei care iubesc thrillerele pline de tensiune și emoție, dar și pentru oricine vrea să fie surprins și provocat. După ce am închis cartea, am rămas cu senzația că am trăit alături de personaje, iar asta pentru mine este semnul unei povești cu adevărat reușite.

It’s the kind of thriller that grabs you from the first page and doesn’t let you breathe easily. I loved how the story blends suspense with emotion, and the characters feel so real you can imagine running into them on your own street.
David Bowers is the kind of man who seems perfect. He owns a pub in Hemingway Grove, a quiet little town in Illinois, and he’s the guy everyone respects. At first, we see him as a local hero—he jumps into the waters of the Cotton River to save a stranger, suddenly becoming famous. But as the story unfolds, you start to wonder if his flawless image is hiding something darker. I love how the authors make you waver between admiration and suspicion.
Marcie, his wife, is a character I felt very close to. A family law attorney, a devoted mother, and a woman who only wants stability, she’s a mix of strength and vulnerability. It was easy to empathize with her fears and doubts. As events spiral out of control, Marcie begins to question everything she thought she knew about the man beside her. I felt every emotion with her—the shock, the anger, the helplessness.
The action is intense and full of twists. It all starts with that heroic act, but its consequences ripple outward like waves crashing harder and harder. The press, nosy strangers, and uncomfortable questions turn their seemingly perfect life into a nightmare. Each chapter is short, fast-paced, and leaves you eager to know what happens next. Just when you think you’ve figured out the game, the authors change the rules.
What struck me most was the theme of trust and appearances. The book isn’t just about a possible killer or a dangerous lie—it’s about how well we truly know the people we love. I found myself wondering what I would do if I discovered that the person I live with had a secret that could destroy everything.
For me, „Lies He Told Me” deserves five stars. It has believable, complex characters, nonstop suspense, and an ending that leaves you speechless. It’s a perfect read for anyone who loves thrillers full of tension and emotion, but also for anyone who wants to be surprised and challenged. When I closed the book, I was left with the feeling that I had lived alongside the characters—and for me, that’s the sign of a truly outstanding story.
