„Mămici mincinoase” de Katherine Faulkner este un thriller psihologic plin de tensiune, care m-a prins încă de la primele pagini. Nu este doar o poveste despre mame și grupuri de joacă, ci și despre aparențe înșelătoare, ambiție, prietenii false și crime tulburătoare.
Personajul principal, Tash, este o femeie proaspăt devenită mamă, care încearcă să-și regăsească locul în lume. Se confruntă cu provocările maternității, singurătatea și dorința de a-și relansa cariera de jurnalist independent. Viața ei nu e deloc roz – locuiește într-un apartament de la subsol, are griji financiare și se simte copleșită. Așa că, atunci când pătrunde într-un grup exclusivist de mame dintr-un cartier bogat al Londrei, simte că poate în sfârșit să respire.
Grupul pare perfect la început: femei elegante, case superbe, cafele de dimineață, cocktailuri și întâlniri de joacă cu copiii. E exact genul de viață pe care Tash și l-a imaginat, mai ales în contrast cu haosul ei zilnic. Dar lucrurile nu sunt nici pe departe atât de simple…
Totul se complică atunci când o dădacă este găsită moartă în condiții suspecte, iar Tash nu poate sta deoparte. Jurnalista din ea se trezește imediat și începe să investigheze, mai ales că o a doua tânără moare la scurt timp. Atmosfera devine tot mai apăsătoare, iar cercul de mame începe să pară mai puțin prietenos și tot mai misterios. Tash ajunge să se întrebe dacă a fost primită în grup pentru cine este… sau pentru ce știe. Cu cât sapă mai adânc, cu atât își dă seama că fiecare femeie din jurul ei ascunde ceva.
Am apreciat mult felul în care Katherine Faulkner combină drama domestică cu suspansul și misterul. Dialogurile sunt autentice, iar tensiunea crește încet, dar sigur. Atmosfera e intimă, dar plină de neliniște, ca și cum ceva urmează să explodeze dintr-un moment în altul. Mi-a plăcut cum a fost construită Tash – o protagonistă imperfectă, dar curajoasă, care vrea mai mult de la viață, chiar dacă uneori se lasă orbită de aparențe.
Singurul motiv pentru care nu i-am dat cinci stele este că, pe alocuri, ritmul e un pic prea lent, mai ales în prima parte. Dar în a doua jumătate, cartea accelerează și devine tot mai captivantă. Finalul m-a surprins și m-a făcut să reevaluez tot ce citisem până atunci.
„Mămici mincinoase” este genul de carte care te face să te întrebi cât de bine îți cunoști prietenele. Dacă îți plac poveștile în stilul „Marile minciuni nevinovate” sau „Una dintre noi a murit”, sigur o să-ți placă și aceasta. E despre legături toxice, ambiții ascunse și cât de departe suntem dispuși să mergem pentru a păstra aparențele.

Her life is far from perfect—she lives in a basement flat, struggles financially, and often feels overwhelmed. So, when she enters an exclusive group of mothers in a wealthy London neighborhood, she finally feels like she can breathe.
At first, the group seems perfect: stylish women, beautiful homes, morning coffees, cocktails, and playdates with the kids. It’s exactly the kind of life Tash once dreamed of, especially in contrast to her daily chaos. But things are far from simple…
Everything takes a dark turn when a nanny is found dead under suspicious circumstances, and Tash can’t help but get involved. The journalist in her kicks in, especially when a second young woman dies shortly after. The atmosphere becomes increasingly tense, and the once-friendly group of mothers starts to feel more secretive and unsettling. Tash begins to wonder if she was welcomed into the group for who she is—or for what she knows. The deeper she digs, the more she realizes that every woman around her is hiding something.
I really appreciated how Katherine Faulkner blends domestic drama with suspense and mystery. The dialogue feels authentic, and the tension builds slowly but surely. The atmosphere is intimate, yet full of unease—like something is always just about to explode. I loved how Tash was portrayed: an imperfect but brave protagonist who wants more from life, even if she sometimes gets blinded by appearances.
The only reason I didn’t give it five stars is that the pacing was a bit slow in the beginning. But the second half picks up speed and becomes increasingly engaging. The ending surprised me and made me reevaluate everything I had read until that point.
„The Other Mothers” is the kind of book that makes you question how well you really know your friends. If you enjoy stories like „Big Little Lies” or „One of Us Is Dead”, you’ll definitely like this one too. It’s about toxic bonds, hidden ambitions, and just how far we’re willing to go to maintain appearances.
