„Ascunsă în zăpadă” de Viveca Sten este un thriller captivant care îmbină suspansul cu atmosfera rece și apăsătoare a nordului înghețat. Mi-a plăcut mult felul în care autoarea construiește tensiunea, iar personajele sunt bine conturate, fiecare ascunzând secrete care se dezvăluie treptat, amplificând misterul.
Povestea o urmărește pe inspectoarea Hanna Ahlander, care trece printr-o perioadă dificilă. Viața ei personală este un haos – a fost părăsită de iubit și și-a pierdut slujba la poliția din Stockholm. Fără un loc unde să se ducă, acceptă invitația surorii sale și se refugiază în stațiunea de schi Åre, sperând să-și pună ordine în gânduri. Dar liniștea pe care o caută dispare rapid atunci când o adolescentă, Amanda, dispare fără urmă după o seară în oraș.
Cazul atrage atenția poliției locale, iar Hanna, deși nu mai face parte oficial din sistem, nu poate sta deoparte. Alături de polițistul Daniel Lindskog, începe o cursă contra cronometru pentru a descoperi ce s-a întâmplat cu fata. Ancheta scoate la iveală tensiuni ascunse în micul oraș montan, unde toți par să aibă ceva de ascuns. Pe măsură ce Hanna și Daniel sapă mai adânc, își dau seama că pericolul este mai aproape decât credeau, iar frigul tăios al iernii nu este singura amenințare care pândește în întuneric.
Mi-a plăcut mult atmosfera apăsătoare a poveștii – descrierile detaliate ale peisajului înghețat și ale nopților reci din Åre chiar m-au făcut să simt acea senzație de izolare și pericol. Hanna este un personaj bine construit, cu o personalitate puternică, dar și cu vulnerabilități care o fac umană și credibilă. În același timp, mi-ar fi plăcut ca relațiile dintre personaje să fie mai dezvoltate, iar unele răsturnări de situație să fie mai surprinzătoare.
Per total, „Ascunsă în zăpadă” este un thriller bine scris, cu o atmosferă rece și apăsătoare, un mister antrenant și un personaj principal cu care este ușor să empatizezi. Chiar dacă unele aspecte ale poveștii ar fi putut fi mai intense, este o lectură care te prinde și te face să vrei să descoperi adevărul până la ultima pagină.

„Hidden in Snow” by Viveca Sten is a gripping thriller that blends suspense with the cold, oppressive atmosphere of the frozen north. I really enjoyed how the author builds tension, and the characters are well-developed, each hiding secrets that gradually unfold, amplifying the mystery.
The story follows Inspector Hanna Ahlander, who is going through a difficult time. Her personal life is a mess—she has been abandoned by her boyfriend and lost her job at the Stockholm police. With nowhere else to go, she accepts her sister’s invitation and takes refuge in the ski resort of Åre, hoping to clear her mind. But the peace she seeks quickly disappears when a teenage girl, Amanda, vanishes without a trace after a night out.
The case draws the attention of the local police, and Hanna, despite no longer being officially part of the system, cannot stay away. Alongside officer Daniel Lindskog, she embarks on a race against time to uncover what happened to the girl. The investigation reveals hidden tensions in the small mountain town, where everyone seems to have something to hide. As Hanna and Daniel dig deeper, they realize that danger is closer than they thought, and the biting cold of winter is not the only threat lurking in the darkness.
I really enjoyed the heavy atmosphere of the story—the detailed descriptions of the frozen landscape and the cold nights in Åre made me feel that sense of isolation and danger. Hanna is a well-crafted character, strong yet vulnerable, making her both relatable and believable. At the same time, I would have liked the relationships between characters to be more developed, and some plot twists to be more surprising.
Overall, „Hidden in Snow” is a well-written thriller with a chilling and oppressive atmosphere, an engaging mystery, and a main character who is easy to empathize with. While some aspects of the story could have been more intense, it is a captivating read that keeps you eager to uncover the truth until the very last page.
