„Blues Cafe” de Teodora Matei și Bogdan Hrib este genul de roman polițist care m-a prins încă de la prima pagină, cu o intrigă intensă și personaje bine conturate. Începutul este literalmente exploziv – o cafenea din centrul Bucureștiului, Blues Caffee, sare în aer, lăsând în urmă victime și multe întrebări fără răspuns. Cei care trebuie să rezolve cazul sunt inspectorul-șef Ștefania Tudoran și maiorul Ioan Pop, doi investigatori complet diferiți, dar extrem de eficienți împreună.
Ștefania este o polițistă tânără, ambițioasă, care aduce o perspectivă modernă asupra cazului, în timp ce Ioan, un veteran de război, vine cu experiența anilor, dar și cu o doză de cinism bine temperat. Împreună cu Willy, câinele lup pensionar al maiorului, cei doi formează o echipă atipică, dar extrem de interesantă de urmărit. Dincolo de anchetă, viețile lor personale se strecoară subtil în narațiune, adăugând profunzime personajelor.
Cazul în sine este complex, cu conspirații, intrigi și piste false, iar autorii reușesc să mențină suspansul pe tot parcursul cărții. Printre victime se numără foști militari, o vedetă online și doi ucraineni, ceea ce face ancheta și mai complicată. În plus, decorul Bucureștiului contemporan, cu toate detaliile lui realiste, oferă un fundal credibil și autentic poveștii.
Un lucru care mi-a plăcut în mod deosebit este dinamica dintre Ștefania și Ioan. Deși la început se ciocnesc din cauza diferențelor de stil și personalitate, relația lor evoluează într-un mod firesc, iar interacțiunile lor sunt pline de dialoguri spumoase. Documentarea autorilor se simte în detaliile anchetei și în modul realist în care sunt descrise procedurile instituțiilor implicate.
Cartea are un ritm alert, fără descrieri inutile, iar fiecare personaj joacă un rol important în puzzle-ul anchetei. Chiar dacă am intuit finalul destul de devreme, acest lucru nu m-a împiedicat să mă bucur de călătoria până la deznodământ. „Blues Cafe” reușește să combine tensiunea unui thriller cu elemente umane, iar asta m-a făcut să o citesc pe nerăsuflate.
Dacă vă plac romanele polițiste românești, bine scrise, cu personaje memorabile și un fir narativ bine construit, atunci „Blues Cafe” este o alegere excelentă. Este genul de carte care se citește ușor într-un weekend, dar care lasă o impresie de durată. M-a surprins plăcut colaborarea dintre cei doi autori și modul în care au îmbinat stilurile lor pentru a crea o poveste coerentă și captivantă.

The beginning is literally explosive—a café in the heart of Bucharest, Blues Caffee, blows up, leaving behind victims and many unanswered questions. The ones tasked with solving the case are Chief Inspector Ștefania Tudoran and Major Ioan Pop, two completely different investigators who work extremely well together.
Ștefania is a young, ambitious police officer who brings a modern perspective to the case, while Ioan, a war veteran, contributes years of experience along with a well-tempered dose of cynicism. Together with Willy, the major’s retired German Shepherd, they form an atypical but fascinating team to follow. Beyond the investigation, their personal lives subtly weave into the narrative, adding depth to the characters.
The case itself is complex, filled with conspiracies, intrigues, and red herrings, and the authors manage to maintain suspense throughout the book. Among the victims are former military personnel, an online influencer, and two Ukrainians, further complicating the investigation. Additionally, the setting of contemporary Bucharest, depicted with realistic details, provides a credible and authentic backdrop to the story.
One aspect I particularly enjoyed is the dynamic between Ștefania and Ioan. Although they initially clash due to their differing styles and personalities, their relationship evolves naturally, and their interactions are filled with sharp, witty dialogues. The authors’ meticulous research is evident in the details of the investigation and the realistic portrayal of institutional procedures.
The book has a fast pace, free from unnecessary descriptions, and every character plays a significant role in the puzzle of the investigation. Even though I guessed the ending fairly early, it didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the journey to the resolution. „Blues Cafe„ successfully combines the tension of a thriller with human elements, making it a gripping read.
If you enjoy Romanian detective novels that are well-written, with memorable characters and a solid narrative, then „Blues Cafe” is an excellent choice. It’s the kind of book you can easily devour in a weekend but leaves a lasting impression. I was pleasantly surprised by the collaboration between the two authors and how they blended their styles to create a cohesive and captivating story.
