„Unghi mort” de Jo Furniss este un thriller intens, care îmbină misterul unui omor cu tensiunea captivantă a unei situații limită. Este genul de carte care te prinde imediat și te face să te întrebi: „Cum se va termina?”
Sergentul Belinda „Billy” Kidd este o protagonistă puternică, dar umană, prinsă într-o situație care pare imposibil de rezolvat. În drum spre casă, la volanul unei mașini închiriate, Billy rămâne blocată într-un ambuteiaj pe o autostradă aglomerată. Însă liniștea aparentă a momentului este distrusă când descoperă un șofer mort într-un sedan negru. Omorul este atât brutal, cât și neobișnuit – victima are o spiță de bicicletă înfiptă în ceafă. De aici începe o cursă contra cronometru.
Ceea ce face povestea și mai captivantă este faptul că ucigașul nu ar fi putut părăsi scena fără să fie văzut. Zecile de martori prezenți în ambuteiaj sugerează un singur lucru: criminalul este încă acolo, printre ei. Atmosfera devine din ce în ce mai tensionată pe măsură ce Billy încearcă să deslușească adevărul, având la dispoziție doar instinctul ei și câteva indicii fragile.
Autoarea creează un decor captivant, transformând autostrada blocată într-un adevărat teatru al suspansului. Personajele secundare – șoferii blocați împreună cu Billy – sunt bine conturate, fiecare aducând în poveste propriile secrete și motive posibile. Cu fiecare pagină, suspiciunile se mută de la un personaj la altul, iar ritmul alert nu-ți permite să lași cartea din mână.
Belinda Kidd este un personaj remarcabil. Inteligentă, curajoasă și determinată, ea trebuie să se confrunte nu doar cu o anchetă complicată, ci și cu presiunea de a preveni alte posibile crime. Personalitatea ei complexă și gândirea rapidă te fac să o susții la fiecare pas.
„Unghi mort” nu este doar un mister bine construit, ci și o explorare a vulnerabilităților umane în situații extreme. Este o poveste despre încredere, minciuni și pericolul care poate veni din cele mai neașteptate locuri.
Această carte m-a ținut în priză de la început până la sfârșit, iar finalul m-a luat complet prin surprindere. Dacă îți plac romanele polițiste pline de adrenalină și cu personaje memorabile, „Unghi mort” este o alegere excelentă.

Belinda Kidd is a remarkable character. Intelligent, brave, and determined, she must not only tackle a complex investigation but also handle the pressure of preventing further possible crimes. Her complex personality and quick thinking make you root for her every step of the way.
„Dead Mile” is not just a well-crafted mystery but also an exploration of human vulnerabilities in extreme situations. It’s a story about trust, lies, and the danger that can come from the most unexpected places.
This book kept me on edge from beginning to end, and the finale completely surprised me. If you enjoy adrenaline-filled crime novels with memorable characters, „Dead Mile” is an excellent choice.
