„Souls We Rip” de D MR este una dintre acele povești care m-au surprins profund și m-au făcut să simt fiecare pagină. Este un roman gotic, întunecat, dar în același timp plin de emoție, credință și speranță. O carte despre suflete pierdute, despre vină, despre iubire și despre alegeri imposibile.
Acțiunea pornește într-un cadru inspirat din tradițiile românești, iar acest detaliu mi-a plăcut enorm. Târgul de Fete de pe Muntele Găina, obiceiurile din sat, mâncărurile pregătite, hainele tradiționale, credința simplă și sinceră a oamenilor, toate aceste elemente dau poveștii o autenticitate aparte. Nu este doar o poveste gotică cu demoni și suflete, ci una ancorată în cultura noastră. Am simțit că autoarea a pus suflet în fiecare detaliu legat de tradiții și asta face cartea și mai specială.
Ana este unul dintre cele mai frumoase personaje feminine pe care le-am întâlnit în ultima vreme. Este un suflet bun, blând și puternic în același timp. Ea alege să se sacrifice în locul tatălui ei, deși știe foarte bine că el nu este un om bun. Tatăl ei este violent, bea mult și își varsă furia asupra mamei și surorii Anei. Din punctul meu de vedere, nu este un om care merita salvat. Și totuși, Ana face alegerea grea. Nu pentru el, ci pentru familia rămasă în urmă. Știe că mama și sora ei nu ar putea supraviețui fără banii aduși în casă de el. În acel moment, am înțeles cât de mare este inima Anei. Nu este un gest naiv, ci unul făcut din responsabilitate și iubire.
The Goat Man este prezentat la început ca o entitate rece, crudă, fără milă. Pare un personaj fixat pe un singur scop: să colecteze suflete. Nu pare să simtă nimic. Este dur, calculat, aproape mecanic. Dar pe măsură ce povestea avansează, începem să vedem fisurile din această mască. Descoperim că, deși nu mai este om, încă păstrează ceva profund uman în el. Îl cheamă Tiberius. Și în spatele coarnelor și al legendei se ascunde un bărbat care își dorește să simtă din nou, să trăiască, să iubească. Evoluția lui mi s-a părut foarte bine construită. Nu se schimbă brusc, ci treptat, prin contactul cu Ana. Vedem cum devine vulnerabil, cum începe să se îndoiască, cum luptă cu propriul trecut.
Un moment care m-a impresionat foarte mult este acel plot twist în care aflăm cum a ajuns Tiberius să devină The Goat Man. Revelația este dureroasă și schimbă complet perspectiva asupra lui. În acel punct, nu mai vezi doar un „monstru”, ci un om manipulat, prins într-un joc mai mare decât el. A fost una dintre cele mai puternice răsturnări de situație din carte și mi-a rămas mult timp în minte.
Mi-a plăcut mult și felul în care personajele evoluează. Ana nu își pierde puritatea, chiar dacă ajunge să colecteze zece suflete. Nu devine crudă, nu devine indiferentă. Rămâne aceeași persoană care crede în Dumnezeu, în iubire și în bine. Tiberius evoluează și el, dintr-o entitate fără milă într-un bărbat care își dorește o viață simplă, o familie, o șansă la umanitate. Relația lor este construită cu răbdare, cu conflicte, cu iertare și încredere.
Finalul mi-a plăcut enorm. După atâta durere, luptă și sacrificii, faptul că totul se încheie cu bine mi-a adus o liniște pe care o așteptam. Ana reușește să își păstreze sufletul curat. Tiberius are șansa la o nouă viață. Iar împreună cu micuțul Eugen își întemeiază o familie. Este un final care nu anulează suferința prin care au trecut, dar o transformă în ceva frumos.
Pentru mine, „Souls We Rip” este o poveste despre credință în mijlocul întunericului, despre iubire care vindecă și despre faptul că, uneori, chiar și cele mai pierdute suflete pot găsi drumul înapoi. Este o carte care m-a făcut să simt, să reflectez și să mă atașez profund de personaje. O lectură de cinci stele, fără îndoială.

“Souls We Rip” by D MR is one of those stories that truly surprised me and made me feel every single page. It’s a gothic, dark novel, yet at the same time filled with emotion, faith, and hope. A book about lost souls, guilt, love, and impossible choices.
The story begins in a setting inspired by Romanian traditions, and I absolutely loved that detail. The Maidens’ Fair on Mount Găina, the village customs, the traditional food, the folk clothing, the simple and sincere faith of the people — all these elements give the story a unique authenticity. It’s not just a gothic tale about demons and souls, but one deeply rooted in our culture. I felt that the author poured her heart into every detail connected to these traditions, and that makes the book even more special.
Ana is one of the most beautiful female characters I’ve encountered lately. She is kind, gentle, and strong at the same time. She chooses to sacrifice herself in place of her father, even though she knows very well that he is not a good man. Her father is violent, drinks heavily, and takes out his anger on Ana’s mother and sister. In my opinion, he is not someone who deserved to be saved. And yet, Ana makes the difficult choice. Not for him, but for the family left behind. She knows that her mother and sister would not survive without the money he brings into the house. In that moment, I truly understood how big Ana’s heart is. It is not a naïve gesture, but one made out of responsibility and love.
The Goat Man is introduced at first as a cold, cruel, merciless entity. He seems focused on a single purpose: collecting souls. He appears incapable of feeling anything. Harsh, calculated, almost mechanical. But as the story unfolds, we begin to see the cracks in this mask. We discover that although he is no longer human, he still carries something deeply human within him. His name is Tiberius. And behind the horns and the legend hides a man who longs to feel again, to live, to love. His evolution felt very well constructed to me. He doesn’t change suddenly, but gradually, through his connection with Ana. We see him become vulnerable, begin to doubt, struggle with his own past.
One moment that deeply impressed me is the plot twist where we learn how Tiberius became the Goat Man. The revelation is painful and completely shifts the perspective on him. At that point, you no longer see just a “monster,” but a man manipulated, trapped in a game bigger than himself. It was one of the strongest twists in the book, and it stayed with me for a long time.
I also loved the way the characters evolve. Ana does not lose her purity, even though she ends up collecting ten souls. She does not become cruel or indifferent. She remains the same person who believes in God, in love, and in goodness. Tiberius evolves as well, from a merciless entity into a man who longs for a simple life, a family, a chance at humanity. Their relationship is built with patience, conflict, forgiveness, and trust.
I loved the ending. After so much pain, struggle, and sacrifice, the fact that everything concludes well brought me a sense of peace I had been waiting for. Ana manages to keep her soul pure. Tiberius is given a chance at a new life. And together with little Eugen, they build a family. It’s an ending that does not erase the suffering they endured, but transforms it into something beautiful.
For me, “Souls We Rip” is a story about faith in the middle of darkness, about love that heals, and about the truth that sometimes even the most lost souls can find their way back. It’s a book that made me feel deeply, reflect, and grow attached to its characters. A five-star read, without a doubt.
