A sosit momentul să scriu despre „Un câmp de păpădii”, și cred că trebuie să încep prin a spune un lucru foarte clar: sunt complet îndrăgostită de tot ce scrie Mihaela Balcanu. Stilul ei are ceva aparte, o sensibilitate care nu poate fi imitată. Cuvintele ei nu rămân niciodată doar pe pagină, ci își găsesc mereu drumul spre suflet, unde apasă exact acolo unde doare mai tare. Este genul de lectură care te emoționează până la lacrimi, fără artificii, fără promisiuni false, doar prin adevăr și trăire sinceră.
Cu această poveste m-am simțit conectată într-un mod foarte personal. Alec este masterand la muzică, la chitară, Endellion este studentă la pictură, iar eu sunt pasionată de ambele, chiar dacă probabil nu știați asta despre mine. Muzica și arta sunt două limbaje care spun lucruri pe care uneori nu le putem exprima prin cuvinte, iar felul în care ele sunt integrate în poveste m-a făcut să simt că aparțin acestui univers. Am avut senzația că nu doar citesc despre ei, ci că trăiesc alături de ei fiecare emoție, fiecare nesiguranță, fiecare vis.
Endellion este un personaj extrem de fragil și de puternic în același timp. O tânără care trăiește cu fricile ei, cu problemele alimentare, cu presiunea examenelor și cu bullying-ul colegilor. Alec, la rândul lui, poartă traume adânci, nesiguranțe și o luptă constantă cu lipsa inspirației și cu așteptările celor din jur. Mi-a plăcut enorm cât de realist sunt construite personajele, nu doar ei doi, ci și cele secundare. Nimic nu este înfrumusețat, nimic nu este îndulcit. Viața de student este redată exact așa cum este: dură, obositoare, plină de competiție, unde toți încearcă să fie „cei mai buni”, chiar dacă asta îi macină pe interior.
Toate aceste probleme sunt reale. Toți ne-am lovit de ele, într-o formă sau alta, la un moment dat. Poate de lipsa banilor, de stres, de nesiguranță, de sentimentul că nu suntem suficient de buni. Tocmai de aceea atașamentul față de personaje vine atât de ușor. Empatizezi cu ei, îi înțelegi și ajungi să-i porți cu tine mult timp după ce ai închis cartea. Sunt credibili, sunt umani și, poate cel mai important, sunt imperfecți.
Povestea de iubire dintre Alec și Endellion m-a dus cu gândul la prima iubire. Acea iubire intensă, care se trăiește cu tot sufletul, fără măști și fără rezerve. O iubire care doare, care vindecă, care te schimbă. Mi-a plăcut enorm faptul că ambii au trecut prin multe încercări, că au traume și răni nevindecate, dar reușesc să se sprijine unul pe celălalt. Nu se salvează reciproc în mod miraculos, ci își oferă puterea de a merge mai departe, pas cu pas, fiind acolo unul pentru celălalt atunci când totul pare prea greu.
Dacă ar fi să menționez câteva minusuri, ele sunt mai degrabă dorințe personale. Aș fi vrut ca povestea să fie mai lungă, pentru că nu mă pot sătura niciodată de universurile create de Mihaela Balcanu. De asemenea, mi-ar fi plăcut ca partea lui Alec să fie mai dezvoltată: să aflu mai mult despre cum compune, ce compune, de unde se inspiră, cum se naște muzica lui. Simt că acolo mai era loc de explorat, mai ales pentru un personaj atât de interesant.
Pentru mine, „Un câmp de păpădii” este o carte de cinci stele, o poveste care se simte, nu doar se citește. Este despre durere, iubire, artă, muzică și despre lupta de a deveni tu însuți într-o lume care nu este deloc blândă. O carte care rămâne cu tine mult timp și care te face să privești cu mai multă înțelegere atât personajele, cât și propriile tale răni.
A Field of Dandelions – Mihaela Balcanu (Floral Petals, #1)
The time has come for me to write about “A Field of Dandelions”, and I think I need to start by saying one very clear thing: I am completely in love with everything Mihaela Balcanu writes. Her style has something truly special, a sensitivity that cannot be imitated. Her words never remain only on the page; they always find their way straight to the soul, pressing exactly where it hurts the most. This is the kind of book that moves you to tears without tricks, without false promises—only through truth and genuine emotion.
With this story, I felt connected on a very personal level. Alec is a master’s student in music, specializing in guitar, and Endellion is a painting student—and I am passionate about both, even if you probably didn’t know that about me. Music and art are two languages that express things we sometimes cannot put into words, and the way they are woven into the story made me feel like I truly belonged to this universe. I had the feeling that I wasn’t just reading about them, but living alongside them—every emotion, every insecurity, every dream.
Endellion is an extremely fragile and powerful character at the same time. A young woman living with her fears, her eating disorder, the pressure of exams, and the bullying from her classmates. Alec, in turn, carries deep traumas, insecurities, and a constant struggle with lack of inspiration and the expectations of those around him. I loved how realistically the characters are built—not only the two of them, but the secondary characters as well. Nothing is beautified, nothing is softened. Student life is portrayed exactly as it is: harsh, exhausting, full of competition, where everyone tries to be “the best,” even if it slowly eats them up inside.
All of these problems are real. We’ve all faced them in one form or another at some point—lack of money, stress, insecurity, the feeling that we’re not good enough. That’s why it’s so easy to grow attached to the characters. You empathize with them, you understand them, and you end up carrying them with you long after you’ve closed the book. They are believable, human, and perhaps most importantly, imperfect.
The love story between Alec and Endellion reminded me of first love—that intense kind of love, lived with your whole soul, without masks and without reservations. A love that hurts, that heals, that changes you. I loved the fact that they both go through so many trials, that they carry trauma and unhealed wounds, yet manage to support each other. They don’t magically save one another; instead, they give each other the strength to move forward, step by step, being there for one another when everything feels too heavy.
If I were to mention a few drawbacks, they are more personal wishes than actual flaws. I would have loved the story to be longer, because I can never get enough of the worlds Mihaela Balcanu creates. I also would have liked Alec’s perspective to be more developed—to learn more about how he composes, what he composes, where his inspiration comes from, how his music is born. I feel there was still room to explore there, especially for such an interesting character.
For me, “A Field of Dandelions” is a five-star book—a story that is felt, not just read. It is about pain, love, art, music, and the struggle to become yourself in a world that is far from gentle. A book that stays with you for a long time and makes you look with more understanding not only at the characters, but also at your own wounds.
