„Twisted Lies” de Ana Huang este genul de poveste care te prinde fără să-ți dai seama și te face să vrei să stai încă cinci minute cu cartea în mână, doar ca să afli ce se întâmplă în continuare. Pentru mine, a fost o lectură cu valuri: momente intense, tensiune romantică și scene pline de mister, dar și câteva părți care mi s-au părut puțin prea dramatice. Totuși, atmosfera de lux, secretele bine ascunse și atracția imposibil de ignorat dintre cei doi protagoniști au făcut cartea să merite patru stele.
Personajul feminin, Stella, mi s-a părut fragilă la început, dar într-un fel foarte uman. Ea este o influenceră obișnuită cu aparențele perfecte: haine elegante, zâmbete atent aranjate și o imagine pe care trebuie să o păstreze cu orice preț. Totuși, în spatele acestei lumi strălucitoare se ascunde o tânără cu anxietăți, temeri și dorința de a-și crea o viață în care să se simtă în siguranță. Mi-a plăcut evoluția ei, felul în care începe să aibă mai multă încredere în sine și, mai ales, felul în care se deschide față de cineva când credea că nu va mai putea avea încredere în nimeni.
Christian, pe de altă parte, este exact tipul de personaj masculin care îți rămâne în minte: rece, misterios și învăluit într-o eleganță periculoasă. Este un om calculat, obișnuit să controleze totul, dar pe măsură ce relația lui cu Stella crește, începi să vezi fisuri în armura lui. Ceea ce am apreciat este contrastul dintre imaginea lui publică – omul fără emoții – și vulnerabilitatea pe care o arată doar în fața ei. Îți dă impresia că Stella este singura lui slăbiciune, dar și singura lumină dintr-o lume plină de umbre.
Acțiunea este presărată cu tensiune romantică, scene de protecție intensă și multe secrete care se dezvăluie încet. Avem un contract de ”iubit fals”, o relație care începe din convenție, dar se transformă într-o poveste reală, plină de emoții și conflicte interioare. Mi-au plăcut momentele în care cei doi ajung să se înțeleagă unul pe altul fără cuvinte, dar și scenele în care pericolele din jurul Stellei scot la lumină latura întunecată a lui Christian. Uneori, poate prea întunecată.
Dacă ar fi să spun ce nu m-a convins complet, ar fi ritmul pe alocuri inegal și faptul că unele situații par exagerate, ca într-un film de acțiune. Dar chiar și așa, stilul Anei Huang este ușor de citit, plăcut și te prinde foarte repede. Este genul de carte ideală pentru o după-amiază în care ai chef să evadezi într-o poveste intensă, romantică și plină de suspans.
Per total, „Twisted Lies” mi-a oferit o combinație reușită de emoție, romantism și mister, iar Stella și Christian formează un cuplu pe care îl ții minte. Este o lectură care, deși imperfectă, m-a făcut să simt și să trăiesc alături de personaje, iar asta e tot ce contează pentru mine când acord patru stele.

“Twisted Lies” by Ana Huang is the kind of story that grips you without you even noticing and makes you want to stay with the book for just five more minutes, just to find out what happens next. For me, it was a reading experience in waves: intense moments, romantic tension, and scenes full of mystery, but also a few parts that felt a bit too dramatic. Still, the luxurious atmosphere, the well-guarded secrets, and the impossible-to-ignore attraction between the two protagonists made the book deserve four stars.
The female character, Stella, seemed fragile to me at first, but in a very human way. She’s an influencer used to perfect appearances: elegant clothes, carefully arranged smiles, and an image she has to maintain at any cost. Yet behind this glittering world hides a young woman with anxiety, fears, and the desire to build a life where she can feel safe. I liked her development, the way she starts to trust herself more, and especially how she opens up to someone when she thought she could never trust anyone again.
Christian, on the other hand, is exactly the kind of male character that stays with you: cold, mysterious, and wrapped in a dangerous sort of elegance. He’s a calculated man, used to controlling everything, but as his relationship with Stella grows, you start to see cracks in his armor. What I appreciated most is the contrast between his public image—the emotionless man—and the vulnerability he shows only to her. He gives you the impression that Stella is his only weakness, but also the only light in a world full of shadows.
The story is filled with romantic tension, intense protective moments, and many secrets that unfold slowly. We have a “fake boyfriend” contract, a relationship that starts out of convenience but turns into a real story full of emotions and inner conflicts. I liked the moments when the two understand each other without words, as well as the scenes where the dangers surrounding Stella bring out Christian’s darker side. Sometimes, maybe too dark.
If I had to say what didn’t fully convince me, it would be the uneven pacing at times and the fact that some situations feel exaggerated, like in an action movie. But even so, Ana Huang’s writing style is easy to read, pleasant, and very engaging. It’s the kind of book perfect for an afternoon when you feel like escaping into an intense, romantic, and suspenseful story.
Overall, “Twisted Lies” offered me a successful combination of emotion, romance, and mystery, and Stella and Christian make a couple you won’t forget. It’s a reading experience that, although imperfect, made me feel and live alongside the characters—and that’s all that matters to me when I give a four-star rating.
