Am citit „În spatele ușilor închise” cu emoție și curiozitate, mai ales că Freida McFadden a devenit una dintre autoarele mele preferate când vine vorba de thrillere psihologice. De data asta, povestea ne poartă în mintea unei femei care încearcă să trăiască normal, deși copilăria ei a fost un adevărat coșmar.
Nora Davis avea doar unsprezece ani când a aflat că tatăl ei era un criminal în serie. Subsolul casei lor ascundea optsprezece victime, iar viața Norei s-a schimbat pentru totdeauna. Ani mai târziu, ea este un chirurg respectat, o femeie care și-a clădit o viață nouă, departe de trecut. Nimeni din jurul ei nu știe cine a fost tatăl ei, iar Nora face tot ce poate ca să-și țină secretul ascuns.
Totul se prăbușește atunci când o pacientă este ucisă în același mod în care tatăl ei obișnuia să-și omoare victimele. Urmează un șir de crime care par o copie fidelă a trecutului. Deși tatăl Norei este după gratii, cineva pare să o cunoască prea bine. Cineva îi urmărește fiecare mișcare, îi știe trecutul și pare hotărât să-i distrugă viața.
Mi-a plăcut ideea de bază — lupta Norei cu propria moștenire, frica de a deveni ca tatăl ei, modul în care se izolează de oameni ca să se protejeze. Autoarea reușește să creeze o atmosferă tensionată, plină de suspans, iar unele scene sunt atât de intense încât le-am simțit aproape fizic.
Totuși, recunosc că a fost o carte care nu m-a impresionat la fel de mult ca alte romane ale Freidei McFadden. Mi s-a părut că ritmul este inegal — unele capitole sunt foarte captivante, iar altele parcă se repetă și pierd din tensiune. De asemenea, finalul, deși surprinzător, mi s-a părut prea brusc, ca și cum totul s-ar fi încheiat înainte să am timp să înțeleg complet motivele personajelor.
„În spatele ușilor închise” este o lectură interesantă, cu un subiect intens și o eroină greu de uitat, dar pentru mine n-a fost cel mai puternic thriller al autoarei. Mi-a plăcut povestea, dar nu am simțit acea legătură emoțională cu personajele, iar unele momente mi-au lăsat impresia de deja-vu.
Aș spune că este o carte potrivită dacă îți plac poveștile despre secretele trecutului și despre cum răul poate reveni chiar atunci când crezi că ai scăpat de el. Pentru mine, este o lectură de trei stele — plină de suspans, dar nu suficient de profundă cât să mă marcheze.
The Locked Door – Freida McFadden
I read “The Locked Door” with a mix of emotion and curiosity, especially since Freida McFadden has become one of my favorite authors when it comes to psychological thrillers. This time, the story takes us inside the mind of a woman trying to live a normal life, even though her childhood was a true nightmare.
Nora Davis was only eleven years old when she discovered that her father was a serial killer. The basement of their house hid eighteen victims, and Nora’s life changed forever. Years later, she is a respected surgeon, a woman who has built a new life far from her past. No one around her knows who her father was, and Nora does everything she can to keep that secret buried.
Everything falls apart when one of her patients is murdered in the exact same way her father used to kill his victims. What follows is a series of murders that seem to perfectly mirror the past. Even though Nora’s father is behind bars, someone seems to know her too well. Someone is watching her every move, knows her history, and seems determined to destroy her life.
I really liked the central idea — Nora’s struggle with her own dark inheritance, her fear of becoming like her father, and the way she isolates herself from others to stay safe. The author creates a tense, suspenseful atmosphere, and some scenes are so intense that I could almost feel them physically.
However, I must admit that this book didn’t impress me as much as some of Freida McFadden’s other novels. I found the pacing uneven — some chapters are incredibly gripping, while others feel repetitive and lose their tension. Also, although the ending is surprising, it felt too abrupt, as if everything wrapped up before I had time to fully understand the characters’ motives.
“The Locked Door” is an engaging read, with a dark premise and an unforgettable heroine, but for me, it wasn’t the author’s strongest thriller. I enjoyed the story, but I didn’t feel that emotional connection with the characters, and at times, it gave me a sense of déjà vu.
I’d say it’s a good book if you like stories about hidden pasts and the idea that evil can return just when you think you’ve escaped it. For me, it’s a three-star read — full of suspense, but not deep enough to truly leave a mark.
