„Chemarea Omului Flămând” de Kyle Perry este genul de carte care te atrage prin atmosfera ei grea și neliniștitoare. O poveste despre frică, vină și secrete care nu pot fi îngropate, chiar și într-un loc aflat la capătul lumii. Mi-a plăcut cât de realist este redat peisajul tasmanian — un ținut sălbatic și rece, unde munții, vântul și marea par să ascundă povești vechi, transmise în șoaptă.
Totul începe cu dispariția unui grup de adolescente în Limestone Creek, un orășel izolat, înconjurat de păduri și faleze periculoase. Pentru localnici, totul pare o repetare a unui coșmar din trecut — acum treizeci de ani, alte fete au dispărut fără urmă în aceeași zonă. De atunci, legenda „Omului Flămând” a rămas vie: o prezență care bântuie comunitatea, un simbol al răului pe care oamenii refuză să-l înfrunte.
Personajul care mi-a atras atenția este detectivul Con Badenhorst — un om dur, cu instincte bune, dar copleșit de greutatea propriei conștiințe. Este prins între datoria de polițist și neîncrederea pe care o simte față de colegii săi corupți. În același timp, are de-a face cu o comunitate care tace, care preferă să ascundă adevărul pentru a-și proteja liniștea aparentă. Mi-a plăcut felul în care autorul l-a făcut real: nu este un erou, ci un om obosit, care greșește, dar nu renunță.
Cartea este plină de tensiune, dar are și momente în care simți durerea personajelor, pierderile lor, vinovăția care le apasă. Mi-a plăcut cum Kyle Perry îmbină misterul cu partea emoțională — nu este doar un thriller, ci și o poveste despre comunități mici, despre tăcere, despre modul în care trecutul continuă să apese asupra prezentului. Pe alocuri, ritmul este mai lent și descrierile sunt detaliate, dar tocmai asta dă profunzime poveștii și face atmosfera credibilă.
Mi-a plăcut și ideea că legenda „Omului Flămând” nu este doar o poveste de speriat copiii, ci o metaforă pentru lăcomia, egoismul și vinovăția oamenilor. Nu știi niciodată sigur dacă monstrul este real sau dacă răul vine din interiorul celor care vor să-l ascundă. Această ambiguitate mi s-a părut fascinantă.
„Chemarea Omului Flămând” este o carte care se citește cu emoție și curiozitate, o combinație între noir-ul australian, mister și un strop de gotic. Atmosfera mi-a amintit de serialele „Twin Peaks” sau „Micuțele mincinoase”, dar cu o notă mai sumbră, mai matură. Este o poveste care nu se termină odată cu ultima pagină — rămâne în minte, ca o umbră. Îi ofer 4 stele — pentru misterul bine construit, atmosfera autentică și felul în care autorul a făcut din legendă o oglindă a sufletului uman. O lectură tulburătoare, care te prinde și nu te lasă ușor.

It’s a story about fear, guilt, and secrets that can’t stay buried — not even in a place at the edge of the world. I loved how realistically the Tasmanian landscape is portrayed — a wild, cold land where the mountains, the wind, and the sea seem to hide ancient stories whispered through generations.
Everything begins with the disappearance of a group of teenage girls in Limestone Creek, a remote town surrounded by forests and dangerous cliffs. For the locals, it feels like history repeating itself — thirty years earlier, other girls vanished without a trace in the same area. Since then, the legend of „The Hungry Man” has haunted the community: a presence lurking in the shadows, a symbol of the evil that people refuse to face.
The character that caught my attention most was Detective Con Badenhorst — a tough man with good instincts, yet weighed down by his own conscience. He’s caught between his duty as a policeman and his distrust of his corrupt colleagues. At the same time, he’s dealing with a community that stays silent, choosing to hide the truth to protect its fragile peace. I liked how the author made him feel so real — not a hero, but a tired man who makes mistakes yet refuses to give up.
The book is full of tension, but there are also moments when you feel the characters’ pain, their losses, and the guilt that haunts them. I appreciated how Kyle Perry blends mystery with emotional depth — it’s not just a thriller, but also a story about small communities, silence, and the way the past continues to weigh on the present. At times, the pace is slower and the descriptions more detailed, but that’s what gives the story its depth and makes the atmosphere so believable.
I also loved the idea that the legend of „The Hungry Man” isn’t just a scary tale for children, but a metaphor for human greed, selfishness, and guilt. You’re never sure whether the monster is real or whether the evil comes from within those trying to hide it. That ambiguity fascinated me.
“The Bluffs” is a book that you read with both emotion and curiosity — a mix of Australian noir, mystery, and a touch of gothic. The atmosphere reminded me of „Twin Peaks” or „Pretty Little Liars”, but darker and more mature. It’s a story that doesn’t end with the last page — it lingers, like a shadow. I give it 4 stars — for its well-built mystery, authentic atmosphere, and the way the author turned a legend into a mirror of the human soul. A haunting read that grips you and doesn’t let go easily.
