Am terminat „Rășină” cu o senzație ciudată, undeva între tristețe, uimire și admirație. Este o carte care nu seamănă cu nimic din ce am citit până acum. Deși are momente întunecate și apăsătoare, Ane Riel reușește să transforme această poveste într-o meditație despre iubire, pierdere și nebunie, spusă prin ochii unei fetițe care nu înțelege pe deplin cât de greșit este tot ceea ce o înconjoară.
Povestea o are în centru pe Liv, o fetiță care trăiește izolată de lume, într-o casă pierdută printre copaci și miros de rășină. Pentru vecini și autorități, Liv este moartă – așa au lăsat să creadă părinții ei. Dar ea este vie, ascunsă și crescută într-o lume mică, ciudată, plină de secrete și frică. Prin vocea ei inocentă și sinceră, descoperim o realitate tulburătoare, în care iubirea părintească se transformă într-o obsesie periculoasă.
Tatăl ei, Jens, este un om care s-a rupt de lume după o pierdere grea. Îl vedem alunecând treptat în nebunie, dar și într-o iubire bolnăvicioasă pentru familia lui, o iubire care îl face să creadă că doar izolarea îi poate proteja. Mama lui Liv, Maria, este prinsă între teamă și iubire, între datoria de a-și apăra copilul și incapacitatea de a se împotrivi soțului. Mi s-a părut un personaj sfâșietor – o femeie care tace prea mult și suferă în tăcere.
Ane Riel scrie cu o sensibilitate aparte. Fiecare detaliu – sunetul vântului, mirosul pădurii, tăcerea casei – te face să simți locul acela ca și cum ai fi acolo, lângă Liv. Chiar și cele mai întunecate momente au o frumusețe ciudată, ca lumina care pătrunde printre crengile groase ale copacilor. Autoarea combină lirismul cu groaza domestică într-un mod unic, care te face să citești cu inima strânsă, dar și cu o curiozitate dureroasă.
Pentru mine, „Rășină” este o carte despre limitele iubirii. Despre cum dragostea, atunci când se amestecă cu frica și durerea, poate deveni o capcană. Este o poveste care te marchează, te face să reflectezi și rămâne cu tine mult timp după ultima pagină.
O recomand celor care nu se tem de povești dificile, dar care caută emoție, profunzime și scriitură de calitate. Este genul de roman care te face să te oprești din citit și să respiri adânc – pentru că fiecare pagină are greutatea unui adevăr dureros.

I finished „Resin” with a strange feeling, somewhere between sadness, wonder, and admiration. It’s a book unlike anything I’ve read before. Although it has dark and oppressive moments, Ane Riel manages to turn this story into a meditation on love, loss, and madness, told through the eyes of a little girl who doesn’t fully understand how wrong everything around her is.
The story centers on Liv, a young girl who lives isolated from the world, in a house hidden among trees and the scent of resin. For the neighbors and the authorities, Liv is dead — that’s what her parents let everyone believe. But she’s alive, hidden and raised in a small, strange world full of secrets and fear. Through her innocent and honest voice, we discover a disturbing reality where parental love turns into a dangerous obsession.
Her father, Jens, is a man who has cut himself off from the world after a terrible loss. We see him gradually descending into madness, consumed by a sick kind of love for his family — a love that makes him believe isolation is the only way to protect them. Liv’s mother, Maria, is caught between fear and love, between her duty to protect her child and her inability to stand up to her husband. I found her heartbreaking — a woman who stays silent too often and suffers quietly.
Ane Riel writes with a rare sensitivity. Every detail — the sound of the wind, the smell of the forest, the silence of the house — makes you feel that place as if you were there, beside Liv. Even the darkest moments have a strange beauty, like light filtering through the thick branches of the trees. The author blends lyricism with domestic horror in a unique way that makes you read with both dread and painful curiosity.
For me, „Resin” is a book about the limits of love — about how love, when mixed with fear and pain, can become a trap. It’s a story that leaves a mark, makes you reflect, and stays with you long after you’ve finished it.
I recommend it to those who aren’t afraid of difficult stories, but who seek emotion, depth, and beautiful writing. It’s the kind of novel that makes you pause and take a deep breath — because every page carries the weight of a painful truth.
