Încă de la primele pagini, am simțit că primul volum din seria „Imperiul iubirii”, „Carpe Diem”, o să fie o carte specială pentru mine. Cassia Hale, personajul principal, m-a cucerit prin felul ei perfecționist, ordonat și plin de dorința de a reuși. Ea nu își dorește distrageri, nu are timp pentru iubiri sau aventuri, pentru că visul ei este medicina. Totuși, viața are un mod ironic de a-i da planurile peste cap, iar momentul în care îl întâlnește pe Hayden Cross declanșează un adevărat haos emoțional.
Cassia este genul de fată care își face griji și pentru cel mai mic detaliu – părul, machiajul, punctualitatea – dar în spatele acestei discipline se ascunde și o vulnerabilitate. Relația ei cu Rhea, cea mai bună prietenă, aduce multă căldură și umor în poveste. Rhea este opusul ei: spontană, haotică, mereu gata să facă glume și să o scoată pe Cassia din carapace. Dinamicile dintre ele sunt delicioase și mi-au amintit de propriile prietenii, unde tachinările se împletesc cu susținerea necondiționată.
Însă adevărata scânteie apare în bibliotecă, atunci când Cassia dă peste Hayden. Îl întâlnește într-un moment de tensiune, iar aroganța lui o scoate din minți. Și totuși, contrastul dintre replicile reci și privirea lui intensă creează o chimie pe care nici ea, nici eu, ca cititoare, nu am putut să o ignor. Hayden este rezident în neurochirurgie – talentat, sigur pe el, dar și periculos de atrăgător. Relația lor pornește cu un duel de orgolii, dar devine rapid o poveste de atracție interzisă, plină de pasiune, momente de vulnerabilitate și decizii greu de luat.
Pe fundalul acestui început de iubire, Cassia trebuie să înfrunte și problemele personale. Relația complicată cu mama ei, o femeie rece și obsedată de control, și boala tatălui său adaugă un strat de emoție reală poveștii. Am simțit durerea ei, am simțit nevoia ei de a lupta pentru adevăr și pentru dreptul de a ști ce se întâmplă cu familia ei. Aici, autoarea a reușit să aducă o doză de realism și dramatism care mi-a atins sufletul.
Mi-au plăcut mult și personajele secundare – Scarlett, Killian, Grayson sau chiar Nate – fiecare aduce un ritm diferit poveștii. Petrecerile, replicile ironice, atmosfera de facultate și lumea medicală redau perfect tensiunea dintre ambiție și dorința de a trăi clipa.
Ce m-a impresionat cel mai mult la cartea aceasta? Faptul că are tot ce îți poți dori: o eroină puternică, dar imperfectă, cu care te poți identifica; o prietenie autentică, plină de momente amuzante; o iubire interzisă, care îți dă fluturi în stomac și te face să suspini; și, mai ales, o poveste despre curaj, despre a spune adevărul și despre a alege între inimă și rațiune.
Pentru mine, „Carpe Diem” a fost o experiență intensă și emoționantă. Am râs alături de Rhea, m-am enervat pe aroganța lui Hayden, am simțit nesiguranța Cassiei și mi s-a strâns inima citind despre tatăl ei. Este genul de carte care rămâne cu tine, nu doar prin povestea romantică, ci și prin lecțiile de viață ascunse printre replici.

From the very first pages, I felt that the first volume of „The Empire of Love” series, „Carpe Diem”, was going to be a special book for me. Cassia Hale, the main character, won me over with her perfectionist, organized nature and her strong desire to succeed. She doesn’t want distractions, she has no time for love or flings, because her dream is medicine. Still, life has a rather ironic way of ruining plans, and the moment she meets Hayden Cross sparks a real emotional chaos.
Cassia is the kind of girl who worries about even the smallest details—her hair, her makeup, punctuality—but behind all that discipline lies a vulnerability. Her relationship with Rhea, her best friend, brings so much warmth and humor into the story. Rhea is her opposite: spontaneous, chaotic, always ready to joke and push Cassia out of her shell. Their dynamics are delightful and reminded me of my own friendships, where teasing is always mixed with unconditional support.
But the real spark ignites in the library, when Cassia runs into Hayden. She meets him in a tense moment, and his arrogance drives her crazy. Yet, the contrast between his cold remarks and his intense gaze creates a chemistry that neither she nor I, as a reader, could ignore. Hayden is a neurosurgery resident—talented, confident, but dangerously attractive. Their relationship starts as a duel of egos but quickly turns into a story of forbidden attraction, full of passion, vulnerable moments, and tough decisions.
Alongside this budding romance, Cassia also has to face personal struggles. Her complicated relationship with her mother—a cold, control-obsessed woman—and her father’s illness add a layer of real emotion to the story. I could feel her pain, her need to fight for the truth and for the right to know what’s happening with her family. Here, the author managed to add a dose of realism and drama that truly touched my heart.
I also really enjoyed the secondary characters—Scarlett, Killian, Grayson, and even Nate—each one bringing a different rhythm to the story. The parties, the witty remarks, the college atmosphere, and the medical world perfectly reflect the tension between ambition and the desire to live in the moment.
What impressed me most about this book? The fact that it has everything you could want: a strong yet imperfect heroine you can relate to; an authentic friendship full of funny moments; a forbidden love that gives you butterflies and makes you sigh; and, above all, a story about courage, about speaking the truth, and about choosing between heart and reason.
For me, „Carpe Diem” was an intense and emotional experience. I laughed with Rhea, I got annoyed at Hayden’s arrogance, I felt Cassia’s insecurities, and my heart ached while reading about her father. It’s the kind of book that stays with you, not only because of its romantic story but also because of the life lessons hidden between the lines.
