O poveste care arde lent, dar sigur – și lasă urme adânci în suflet. „Păcate arse” de Raluca Iacob este genul de carte care te răscolește. Este intensă, dureroasă și te face să simți că trăiești fiecare pagină cu personajele. Eu am trăit-o, respirat-o și am rămas cu gândul la ea mult după ce am terminat lectura.
Povestea începe dramatic, cu incendierea catedralei Notre-Dame, dar în spatele flăcărilor se ascunde un întreg univers de traume, decizii grele, păcate personale și planuri întunecate. În centrul acestei povești se află Jo Hernandez, o fată de 18 ani crescută în lux, dar lipsită de dragoste. Protejată excesiv, dar niciodată iubită cu adevărat, Jo este trimisă de mătușa ei, Victoria – o femeie puternică și rece – într-o misiune periculoasă. Ceea ce pare o simplă tranzacție se transformă într-un test de viață și moarte.
În mijlocul incendiului, Jo este prinsă în catedrală, rănită, speriată și cu un artefact religios ascuns în geantă. Monologul ei interior este sfâșietor – se luptă cu vocea critică din capul ei, cu frica, cu lipsa iubirii părintești, dar mai ales cu dorința de a trăi cu adevărat. Este o luptă cruntă între instinctul de supraviețuire și o viață care nu i-a oferit niciodată prea multe motive să lupte.
În paralel, o altă dramă se desfășoară – Joseph Lambert, un polițist parizian, ajunge la locul incendiului și descoperă că soția sa a murit în catedrală. Durerea lui este brutală, sfâșietoare, iar jurământul de răzbunare pe care îl face este un punct de cotitură pentru întreaga intrigă.
Și mai este și Dante, victima și călăul în același timp. El și prietenul lui Cai sunt implicați în declanșarea incendiului, motivați de o dorință veche de răzbunare. Planul lor este întunecat, dar nu lipsit de logică – iar dilemele morale te pun serios pe gânduri: cât de departe ai merge pentru a distruge un om care ți-a frânt viața?
Fiecare personaj are păcatele lui, unele arse, altele abia aprinse. Nicio alegere nu este simplă, fiecare are o rană care sângerează pe dinăuntru. Ce mi-a plăcut enorm este cum autoarea construiește aceste lumi interioare – reale, pline de emoții, fără clișee. Fiecare gând, fiecare replică este plină de greutate.
Raluca Iacob scrie cu forță și vulnerabilitate. Te duce în inima flăcărilor, te aruncă în prăpastia vinovăției, te ține cu sufletul la gură. Cartea este un thriller psihologic, dar și o dramă umană puternică, despre abuz, putere, traume, dorința de libertate și prețul greu al alegerilor.
Pentru mine, „Păcate arse” nu este doar o carte. Este o experiență. Iar Jo… Jo a rămas cu mine mult timp. O fată aparent slabă, dar mai curajoasă decât mulți adulți. O supraviețuitoare. Recomand din suflet cartea! Pregătește-te pentru o lectură intensă, complexă și emoționantă.

It’s intense, painful, and makes you feel as if you’re living every page alongside the characters. I lived it, breathed it, and kept thinking about it long after I finished reading.
The story begins dramatically, with the burning of Notre-Dame Cathedral, but behind the flames hides an entire universe of trauma, hard decisions, personal sins, and dark schemes. At the heart of this story is Jo Hernandez, an 18-year-old girl raised in luxury but deprived of love. Overprotected yet never truly loved, Jo is sent on a dangerous mission by her aunt Victoria – a powerful and cold woman. What seems like a simple transaction turns into a life-or-death test.
Caught inside the cathedral during the fire, Jo is injured, terrified, and carrying a hidden religious artifact in her bag. Her inner monologue is heartbreaking – she struggles with the critical voice in her head, with fear, with the absence of parental love, but most of all with the desire to truly live. It’s a brutal fight between the instinct to survive and a life that never gave her many reasons to.
At the same time, another drama unfolds – Joseph Lambert, a Parisian police officer, arrives at the scene and discovers that his wife died inside the cathedral. His pain is brutal, gut-wrenching, and the vow of revenge he makes becomes a turning point for the whole plot.
And then there’s Dante, both a victim and a tormentor. He and his friend Cai are involved in starting the fire, driven by a long-standing desire for revenge. Their plan is dark but not without logic – and the moral dilemmas it raises really make you think: how far would you go to destroy someone who shattered your life?
Each character has their sins – some burnt to ashes, others just beginning to smolder. No choice is easy; each of them carries a wound bleeding from within. What I truly loved is how the author builds these inner worlds – real, emotional, without clichés. Every thought, every line carries weight.
Raluca Iacob writes with both strength and vulnerability. She takes you into the heart of the flames, throws you into the abyss of guilt, and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The book is a psychological thriller but also a powerful human drama about abuse, power, trauma, the longing for freedom, and the heavy price of our choices.
For me, „Burnt Sins” is not just a book. It’s an experience. And Jo… Jo stayed with me long after the last page. A girl who seemed fragile, but who proved braver than many adults. A survivor. I wholeheartedly recommend this book! Get ready for an intense, complex, and emotional read.
