„Luna din apă” de Samantha Sotto Yambao este o poveste delicată, cu parfum de basm japonez și multă emoție, care m-a făcut să mă simt, pe alocuri, ca într-un film de la Studio Ghibli — plin de magie, dar și de umbre.
Totul începe într-un colț ascuns din Tokyo, pe o străduță pe care puțini o pot vedea cu adevărat. Acolo se află o casă de amanet… dar nu una obișnuită. În acest loc misterios, oamenii nu vin să vândă obiecte, ci regretele și alegerile dureroase pe care le-au făcut în viață. Însă magazinul le apare doar celor care sunt pierduți. M-a fascinat ideea asta — că există un loc unde îți poți lăsa povara inimii, chiar și doar pentru o clipă.
Personajul principal este Hana Ishikawa, o tânără care devine peste noapte noua proprietară a casei de amanet. Dar chiar din prima dimineață, totul se schimbă. Tatăl ei a dispărut, iar cineva a furat o alegere importantă. Ce urmează este o călătorie magică, plină de simboluri, pericole și frumuseți ascunse. Alături de ea apare un străin misterios și carismatic, Minatozaki Keishin, care nu vine să ceară, ci să ofere ajutor — iar legătura care se creează între ei este discretă, dar intensă.
Mi-au plăcut foarte mult locurile prin care trec: bălți care devin porți către alte lumi, cocori de hârtie care zboară, piețe de noapte în nori, poduri care duc spre necunoscut… Toate acestea creează o atmosferă unică, cu imagini vizuale puternice, aproape cinematice. Pe alocuri, simți că te miști prin vis, dar un vis care are și colțuri întunecate, unde adevărurile personale dor.
Ce mi-a plăcut cel mai mult este faptul că povestea nu este doar una de aventură sau fantezie. Este și o poveste despre alegeri, regrete, pierderea celor dragi și curajul de a merge mai departe, chiar și când ești pe punctul de a te rupe. Hana nu caută doar pe cineva dispărut, ci încearcă să se regăsească pe ea însăși. Finalul este emoționant, dar și provocator, pentru că te face să te gândești la propriile tale alegeri.
Totuși, uneori, stilul poetic și simbolic poate îngreuna lectura. A fost nevoie de răbdare pentru a pătrunde în sensurile mai adânci ale poveștii. De aceea, i-am oferit patru stele — pentru frumusețea lumii create și profunzimea temelor, dar cu mici rezerve legate de ritm și claritate.
Recomand „Luna din apă” celor care iubesc realismul magic, poveștile cu suflet și acele aventuri care nu se petrec doar în lumi fantastice, ci și în inimile personajelor. O carte ca o poezie, ca o lampă aprinsă într-o noapte cu ploaie.

“Water Moon” by Samantha Sotto Yambao is a delicate story, with the fragrance of a Japanese fairytale and a deep emotional current, one that at times made me feel like I was in a Studio Ghibli film — full of magic, but also shadows.
It all begins in a hidden corner of Tokyo, on a small street that only a few can truly see. There lies a pawnshop… but not an ordinary one. In this mysterious place, people don’t come to sell objects, but rather their regrets and the painful choices they’ve made in life. However, the shop only reveals itself to those who are lost. I found this idea fascinating — that there could be a place where you can lay down the burden of your heart, even just for a moment.
The main character is Hana Ishikawa, a young woman who overnight becomes the new owner of the pawnshop. But from the very first morning, everything changes. Her father has vanished, and someone has stolen an important choice. What follows is a magical journey, full of symbols, dangers, and hidden beauty. Alongside her appears a mysterious and charismatic stranger, Minatozaki Keishin, who doesn’t come to ask for help, but to offer it — and the bond that forms between them is subtle, yet intense.
I loved the places they pass through: puddles that become portals to other worlds, paper cranes that take flight, night markets in the clouds, bridges that lead to the unknown… All of these create a unique atmosphere, filled with powerful, almost cinematic imagery. At times, it feels like moving through a dream — a dream with dark corners, where personal truths hurt.
What I loved most is that the story isn’t just one of adventure or fantasy. It’s also a story about choices, regrets, losing loved ones, and the courage to keep going, even when you’re on the verge of breaking. Hana isn’t just searching for someone who disappeared — she’s trying to rediscover herself. The ending is emotional but also challenging, because it makes you reflect on your own choices.
Still, the poetic and symbolic writing style can occasionally make the reading experience more difficult. It took patience to uncover the deeper meanings of the story. That’s why I gave it four stars — for the beauty of the world it creates and the depth of its themes, but with small reservations regarding the pacing and clarity.
I recommend “Water Moon” to those who love magical realism, soulful stories, and those kinds of adventures that take place not just in fantastical realms, but also within the hearts of the characters. A book like a poem, like a lantern glowing on a rainy night.
