O continuare magică, întunecată și plină de mister – exact ce mi-am dorit!
„Tărâmul nopții” de Melissa Albert este o carte care m-a prins de la primele pagini și nu mi-a mai dat drumul până la final. Este a doua parte din seria „Crângul de alun” și continuă povestea lui Alice Proserpine, o fată care nu este chiar om, dar nici complet creatură de poveste.
După evenimentele tulburătoare din primul volum, Alice trăiește acum în lumea reală, dar nu se simte deloc ca acasă. A scăpat din Crângul de alun, tărâmul straniu și plin de povești vii, dar poveștile nu au terminat cu ea. În jurul ei încep să moară alte „creaturi de poveste” – ființe ca și ea, care au fugit din tărâmul basmelor – iar cineva pare să le vâneze cu scopul de a recrea acel tărâm pierdut.
Alice este o eroină complicată. Nu este perfectă, dar tocmai asta o face reală. Este impulsivă, curajoasă și încă poartă în ea umbrele trecutului. Pe măsură ce investighează crimele, trebuie să se confrunte nu doar cu dușmani noi, ci și cu cine este ea cu adevărat – o poveste vie, capabilă de magie și pericol.
Un alt personaj important este Ellery Finch, băiatul misterios și inteligent care a ajutat-o pe Alice în primul volum. Acum, el se află într-un alt tărâm, căutând o cale de întoarcere și încercând să înțeleagă magia poveștilor. Capitolul lui este mai poetic, mai visător, dar extrem de important pentru a lega tot ce se întâmplă. M-am bucurat enorm să-l regăsesc și să-i aflu gândurile mai profund.
Ce mi-a plăcut enorm la carte este atmosfera. Totul pare învăluit într-un fel de ceață magică, periculoasă, dar fascinantă. Stilul Melissei Albert este liric, plin de imagini vizuale puternice, iar lumea pe care o construiește este un amestec între basm gotic și realitate urbană. Trecerea între lumi este fluidă, iar cititorul se simte mereu pe marginea unui vis sau a unui coșmar.
Finalul este intens și emoționant. Nu doar că oferă răspunsuri, dar lasă și loc pentru reflecție. M-a făcut să mă gândesc la identitate, alegere, și cât de mult din noi este scris de ceilalți… sau de povești.
Recomand „Tărâmul nopții” tuturor celor care iubesc poveștile întunecate, pline de simboluri și mister. Este o lectură profundă, dar accesibilă, cu personaje memorabile și o acțiune care se joacă mereu cu granițele dintre realitate și ficțiune. Pentru mine, a fost o aventură magică de cinci stele, cu tot ce-mi doresc de la o carte: suspans, emoție, și o doză sănătoasă de visare întunecată.

„The Night Country” by Melissa Albert is a book that gripped me from the very first pages and didn’t let go until the very end. It’s the second installment in „The Hazel Wood” series and continues the story of Alice Proserpine, a girl who is not quite human, but not entirely a story creature either.
After the unsettling events of the first book, Alice is now living in the real world, but it doesn’t feel like home at all. She escaped the Hazel Wood – a strange land filled with living stories – but the tales aren’t done with her. Around her, other “story creatures” – beings like her who fled the world of fairy tales – begin to die, and someone seems to be hunting them in an attempt to recreate that lost realm.
Alice is a complex heroine. She’s not perfect, and that’s exactly what makes her feel real. She’s impulsive, brave, and still carries the shadows of her past. As she investigates the murders, she must face not only new enemies but also the truth about who she really is – a living story, capable of both magic and danger.
Another key character is Ellery Finch, the mysterious and intelligent boy who helped Alice in the first book. Now, he finds himself in another realm, searching for a way back and trying to understand the nature of story magic. His chapters are more poetic, more dreamlike, but crucial to tying everything together. I was thrilled to see him again and dive deeper into his thoughts.
What I absolutely loved about this book is its atmosphere. Everything feels wrapped in a kind of magical mist – dangerous, yet fascinating. Melissa Albert’s writing style is lyrical, rich with powerful imagery, and the world she builds is a blend of gothic fairy tale and urban reality. The transition between worlds is fluid, and the reader always feels on the edge of a dream or a nightmare.
The ending is intense and emotional. It not only provides answers but also leaves room for reflection. It made me think about identity, choice, and how much of us is written by others… or by stories.
I wholeheartedly recommend „The Night Country” to anyone who loves dark tales filled with symbolism and mystery. It’s a deep yet accessible read, with memorable characters and a plot that constantly plays with the borders between fiction and reality. For me, it was a five-star magical adventure with everything I want in a book: suspense, emotion, and a healthy dose of dark dreaming.
