„Din Iad. O autopsie a lui Jack Spintecătorul” de Alan Moore, cu ilustrații de Eddie Campbell, este o carte care m-a zguduit și impresionat profund. Nu este doar o poveste despre crimele din Londra victoriană – este o explorare întunecată și extrem de bine construită a nebuniei, puterii și durerii umane.
Personajul principal, Sir William Gull, este prezentat ca fiind creierul din spatele crimelor. Moore nu-l vede ca pe un criminal obișnuit, ci ca pe un om mânat de idei stranii despre istorie, masonerie și soarta femeilor în lume. Gull este fascinant și terifiant în același timp – un om educat, respectat, care devine monstrul suprem într-o Londră sufocată de sărăcie și corupție.
Victimele, cinci femei sărmane din Whitechapel, nu sunt doar nume pe o listă. Moore le oferă povești de viață, vise și temeri. Le cunoaștem înainte ca tragedia să se abată asupra lor, ceea ce face ca întâmplările să fie și mai dureroase. Aici am simțit o mare tristețe: femei simple, prinse într-o lume care le respingea, iar soarta lor a fost folosită ca simbol într-un joc sinistru al celor puternici.
Povestea este spusă într-un ritm lent, dar fiecare scenă are un scop și o greutate aparte. Moore reușește să construiască atmosfera apăsătoare a Londrei din secolul XIX atât de bine încât aproape simți mirosul de fum, ploaia și teama care plutește în aer. De multe ori m-am surprins citind și întorcând paginile încet, ca și cum aș fi pășit într-un coșmar din care nu voiam să ies.
Ilustrațiile lui Eddie Campbell completează perfect povestea. Desenele sunt în alb-negru sau color, brutale și haotice, dar tocmai această lipsă de perfecțiune dă autenticitate și profunzime poveștii. Fiecare cadru pare să pulseze de tensiune și durere, iar stilul lui Campbell transformă Londra într-un personaj în sine – întunecat, murdar, viu.
Ce m-a impresionat cel mai mult este modul în care Moore îmbină faptele reale, teoriile conspirației și filosofia. „Din Iad” nu este doar o explicație a crimelor lui Jack Spintecătorul, ci o meditație despre cum răul poate fi ascuns sub masca respectabilității și despre cum societatea poate încuraja, fără să-și dea seama, nașterea unor monștri.
Este o carte grea, intensă și nu pentru oricine. Dar dacă intri în lumea ei, te va marca. Pentru mine, „Din Iad” este mai mult decât un roman grafic – este o experiență. Una întunecată, dureroasă, dar incredibil de valoroasă.

The main character, Sir William Gull, is portrayed as the mastermind behind the murders. Moore doesn’t depict him as a typical criminal, but as a man driven by strange ideas about history, Freemasonry, and the fate of women in the world. Gull is both fascinating and terrifying – an educated, respected man who becomes the ultimate monster in a London suffocated by poverty and corruption.
The victims, five poor women from Whitechapel, are not just names on a list. Moore gives them life stories, dreams, and fears. We get to know them before tragedy strikes, which makes their fate even more painful. Here I felt a deep sadness: simple women, trapped in a world that rejected them, their lives used as symbols in a sinister game played by the powerful.
The story unfolds at a slow pace, but every scene has its purpose and weight. Moore manages to build the oppressive atmosphere of 19th-century London so vividly that you can almost smell the smoke, feel the rain, and sense the fear hanging in the air. Many times, I found myself reading and turning the pages slowly, as if stepping into a nightmare I didn’t want to leave.
Eddie Campbell’s illustrations perfectly complement the story. The drawings, whether in black and white or in color, are brutal and chaotic, but it’s precisely this lack of polish that gives authenticity and depth to the story. Every panel seems to pulse with tension and pain, and Campbell’s style turns London into a character of its own – dark, dirty, alive.
What impressed me the most is how Moore blends real facts, conspiracy theories, and philosophy. „From Hell” isn’t just an explanation of Jack the Ripper’s crimes – it’s a meditation on how evil can hide behind the mask of respectability and how society, unknowingly, can nurture the birth of monsters.
It’s a heavy, intense book, and not for everyone. But if you step into its world, it will leave a mark on you. For me, „From Hell” is more than a graphic novel – it’s an experience. A dark, painful, but incredibly valuable one.
