„Crângul de alun” de Melissa Albert este o călătorie fascinantă într-o lume unde granița dintre realitate și basm se estompează periculos. Mi-a plăcut mult combinația dintre mister, supranatural și aventură, dar uneori povestea a devenit atât de întortocheată, încât mi-a fost greu să țin pasul. Totuși, atmosfera unică și stilul autoarei m-au făcut să rămân prinsă în poveste până la final.
Alice, protagonista, trăiește mereu pe fugă alături de mama ei, Ella, fără să știe exact de ce ghinionul le urmărește peste tot. Când primește vestea că bunica ei, Althea Proserpine – o scriitoare faimoasă, dar misterioasă – a murit, pare că lucrurile s-ar putea liniști. Însă realitatea o lovește brusc când mama ei este răpită de Hinterland, lumea supranaturală din poveștile bunicii. Asta o forțează pe Alice să pornească într-o călătorie periculoasă pentru a o găsi, chiar dacă asta înseamnă să descopere secretele bine ascunse ale familiei sale.
Mi-a plăcut mult cum autoarea creează o atmosferă întunecată, aproape ireală, iar lumea din „Crângul de alun” este la fel de fascinantă pe cât este de înfricoșătoare. Hinterland nu este un basm clasic, ci mai degrabă un loc unde poveștile capătă viață într-un mod crud și imprevizibil. Alice este un personaj interesant, impulsivă și încăpățânată, dar uneori mi s-a părut că ia decizii fără să se gândească prea mult la consecințe.
Cartea are o intrigă captivantă, însă ritmul poate fi puțin neregulat – uneori evenimentele se succed rapid, alteori povestea pare să stagneze. Totuși, răsturnările de situație sunt excelente, iar până la final am avut parte de câteva surprize pe care nu le-aș fi ghicit.
În ansamblu, „Crângul de alun” este o lectură perfectă pentru cei care iubesc poveștile gotice, lumile fantastice și secretele de familie. Nu este o carte ușoară, dar atmosfera și stilul unic fac ca această aventură să merite fiecare pagină.

Hinterland isn’t a classic fairy tale land—it’s a place where stories come to life in a cruel and unpredictable way. Alice is an intriguing character—impulsive and stubborn—but at times, I felt she made decisions without thinking too much about the consequences.
The book has an engaging plot, though the pacing can be a bit uneven—sometimes events unfold rapidly, while other moments feel slower. Still, the plot twists are excellent, and by the end, I encountered surprises I never saw coming.
Overall, „The Hazel Wood” is a perfect read for those who love gothic tales, fantastical worlds, and deep family secrets. It’s not a light read, but the atmosphere and unique storytelling make this adventure worth every page.
